The CBS post game show featured that POS Bruce Pearl singing the praises of the losing team.

He makes me sick. And he's done it for 30+ years. I will listen to Brian Barnhart during the FF instead..............

So I have this vision of Whitman sitting before a fire, face obscured by a leather wing back chair. There's a puff of blue smoke, the tinkling sound of ice swirling brown liquor in cut crystal. No sound beyond the crackle of the fire, just a brief chuckle and a spreading smile.

I remember when Coach was first being hired there was a picture of the two men on the plane sitting and smiling together.

I had one single thought at the time: These are the guys who are going to restore Illini greatness. It’s GOING to happen. We are going to be in Good Hands (sorry, State Farm).

And the scenes of the Sea of Orange (sorry, Nebraska) celebrating the entry of the Illini Final Four is the bookend-picture to that first one from the plane.

Now boys... Just ONE MORE picture to add!

Better than the boorish ogling of Tyler Hansborough's mom:)
KW's Mom is pretty easy on the eyes as well. Not that I noticed it much.

I think Underwood has improved a lot as a coach. Crazy thing to say about a 62 year old coach but I see it. I no longer feel like we’re at a coaching deficit going up against a lot of the game’s best.
I know what you are saying , but I’ve never thought we were at a coaching disadvantage most games . sometimes ? sure . coaches make mistakes .

it’s just all about having great players . this year we actually have a few , and not just 1.

have we underperformed in the tourney often? yea . but I always felt like it would even out . we still aren’t there , but BU is doing EVERYTHING we are paying him to do . It’s nice to know he’s staying in Champaign until he retires .

I distinctly remember one of our insiders on here in the off-season after our E8 saying that the 24-25 team/roster additions would be decent but to look out in two years for when the Final Four is in Indy.

Wanna say it was DB11 but what a call.

My grandmother raised me and is THE reason I'm a sports and Illini fan(as well as the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks, but the Illini were her favorite out of all of them). We called her Mamey. She died on my birthday in 2021 from cancer. I never get that emotional, but I'm really emotional and teary-eyed right now. She would've LOVED this! I love you, Mamey! This is for you. ❤️🟧🟦
It's amazing how sports teams (especially this one for you, and me) can brighten lives.

This exact week last year: my aunt died, a good friend was in a traumatic motorcycle crash, my wife lost her job, and ly dad was given a terminal cancer diagnosis.

This year, this week, we bought our dream house, I got a healthy pay raise, and the ILLINI ARE GOING TO THE FINAL FOUR!!

What a difference a year makes.

Wow, ya you are old. 😃. Awesome Anthony Welch
I first got to see the Illini in person in the fall of 1969, coached by Harv Schmidt, with a roster that included Fred Miller, Greg Jackson, Mike Price, Randy Crews and others. A 12 man roster, with 9 from Illinois, and 3 from Indiana. Tallest player was Jackson at 6’8”. Current team has an AVERAGE height of about 6’8”! Times sure have changed, for the better.

then you never watched Jerry Gee and Jess Settles under the basket.
Those were some physical battles indeed...under the basket....in this game when the perimeter player drove the lane....well it was kinda like the NFL....a running back slashing through the line trying to pick up 2 or 3 yds for the first down....just a lot of uncalled contact trying to get to the basket
