You're not wrong. But I just can't see Lloyd leaving Arizona right now, similar to Golden and Florida. The UNC rumors are a little crazy. Someone on the radio yesterday (can't recall if it was The Score or ESPN) said their sources think it's Nate Oats, and it's a done deal that won't be announced until after the Final Four. LOL.
Nate Oats isn't leaving Alabama now. Not saying he won't ever leave but he isn't leaving now.

Bo Ryan literally did it already.

The probability is nowhere near 0. It's likely easier in basketball than it is in football but someone who dominated lower levels will come up and win a D1 title.
Ya, Dan Hurley coached highschool before winning back to back national championships

Kansas isn’t going to be short on cash …

I got told “one last ride” … Bill didn’t want to go out without a big run …

He may very well have expected THIS year to be that big run, until Peterson turned into Mr. Glass for half the season.
Surely next year with Stokes will be the big run!

I mean that's not "doing a Cignetti".

When people analogize Ben McCollum to Curt Cignetti, it's the idea that McCollum's instant success at a higher level means that he's just somehow decoded the game of basketball. Which sounds ridiculous when you say it, because that's not a real thing and is impossible, but what else can you say to describe what Cignetti has done?

And you're right that it's easier in basketball. Not as many individual things have to go right in order to get good in basketball, and it's fundamentally not as coach-driven.

But hey, if Northwestern fires Chris Collins, hires a mid-major flavor of the week, and using a lot of his own mid-major players and fringey NIL investment goes 3 seed Elite Eight year 1, 1 seed national title year 2, THAT would be "doing a Cignetti".

Perish the thought!
I don't think McCollum is like Cignetti. I think McCollum is basically Underwood with Portal.

Very, very stupidly.

There are going to be a lot more Kim Anderson's and precisely zero (0) more Curt Cignetti's.

(Curt Cignetti wasn't even that dominant in D2, the ultimate irony here)
Cignetti was almost certainly a unicorn. At the same time, there is talent at the lower levels and you don't have to win a Natty in year 2 to be a good hire.

What happens if AZ wins it all?

Knowing our luck, AZ and us make to the finals, we're leading AZ by over 10 points with 2 minutes left and they come back and win it...

I don't know how to feel in such a scenario.

How common is this that a coach (presumably his agent) would be working out the terms of a deal with another team while preparing to coach one or two games on the biggest stage? Seems like that would be a MAJOR distraction, especially if word were to leak out.
I would say the "leak out" has already happened. After all, we are all talking about it.

Tommy will have someone who oversees the MBB program and deals with DRF …

New contract is signed as well …

UNC … It’s panic button time …
Can they panic into Dusty May?

UNC has lots of options. Has May said no yet? I’d rather have May over Lloyd anyway.

How about Dusty May? Guess that's not gonna happen?
Why would you leave places when you can easily get to the ultimate destination where you are at? Not saying he wouldn’t go, but I’m not sure he would get the same roster financial guarantee at UNC. Dont mess with happy.

I don't think he should but crazier things happened...

Any school that puts all of their eggs in a coach that is in the final four deserves what’s coming. AD’s can’t read through a basic leverage play
They didn’t put all there eggs in a coach. They had a first option. Now they move to second option. It’s the proper way to proceed.
