I'm going to need a day to rewatch and take it in..
But a couple hot takes:
1) UCONN travels like @$$. How is your student section 1/6 empty?
2) to the Michigan fans rooting for UConn, enjoy it. The rest of the B1G roots every single time you have to remove a banner for a major NCAA violation.
3) getting a beer downtown 3 hours before the game shouldn't take an hour and a half. I love downtown Indianapolis. But y'all can't staff a FF with two bartenders. I will pay twice as much for a beverage, just pay accordingly.
4) go to a Final Four every single time you can.
To Josh, Brad, the team (every single one of you amazing guys, players and staff included), donors, and fellow fans....
THANK YOU.
An amazing season. Love you guys, this is the floor now.

I’m 100% saying that the officiating did not materially impact this game. However, a recurring theme of this season was Wagler getting nowhere close to the whistle that other players of his ability and stature got. He got mugged all season and hardly ever complained while Fears would act like he was shot every time someone breathed on him and convinced officials to call fouls.

It would have been interesting to see how many more times Wagler would have been at the line this season had he got the same type of whistle that Fears gets.
Wagler probably led the BT in free throw attempts. He shot A TON of free throws. More than Fears. Wagler might have set an Illinois record for most free throws ever.

Love the kid. Love his toughness. Love how steady he is. Love that he doesn’t complain when he gets mugged. Love that he doesn’t sell fouls. Love that he is emotionally invested in the Illini. Love that he chooses his words carefully….
He should go live his dream, and test himself against the best in the world. He has earned it. He is too good for college basketball. He has nothing left to prove at this level.
Agreed. If Keaton felt like running it back, who am I to argue? But it shouldn't happen.
He deserves everything coming to him and more. I honestly think he's going to go nuts as a pro when he can iso at will.

Well we are on the other side. Just got home from Indy after we stayed until it was clear Michigan was blowing the doors off Arizona. I appreciated being able to sit and watch that as it took some of the sting out from our game. The noise level definitely dropped significantly after our game.

Anyway great season, lots of fun, let's do it again next year, its time for bed.

It’s such an emotional end to the season, especially with a group who has been extremely likable. Thank you to the coaching staff and players who dedicated countless hours to give us fans so much to be proud of and look forward to every game. You all have brought so much joy in our lives. Let’s keep it rolling!

Bill Murray is a fraud Illini fan. Lol.

Breaking news people who play pretend for their jobs are fake people.

We need Tomi back and he needs to get regular low post touches. His at rim shots should be triple of his three point attempts.

It's a thin margin between agony and jubilation. This very easily could've been a night where we made our shots and they missed theirs and we'd be moving on. But that's basketball.

It's a thin margin between taking your dad to the national championship game in Indy 23 years after he took you to your first Illini game in Indy and having to list your Natty tickets on stubhub. But that's basketball.

This isn't our last shot. We'll be back sooner than later under Brad. But I recognize some fans don't have the luxury of the margin between sooner and later. And I'm heartbroken for them. That's basketball.

It's a game won in the margins. But really, being a fan isn't about the margins. It's about ignoring the margins.

I'll mourn this season. But I won't hang my head too long. I'm proud of these guys. I'm proud of Brad and Josh and the university. It's been a great ride filled with tons of memories.

ILL

Also, I hate UConn.
INI brother, great post.

I’ll never forget calling my dad in 05 after the miracle comeback against AZ and being in tears that what I thought would be our first NC was going to come to fruition. I wanted that so badly for him. Alas, we fell short and it was the last time in his life we got close. He passed a couple years before the cubs won the WS too, after years and years of watching them play on WGN from afar after he retired and left the state. These kind of personal investments in our sports teams is what makes it so special.

I’m to the age now where I wonder if I’ll see illinois win a natty in my lifetime. If we stay on our 20ish year FF pace I’ve only got a chance or two left. I’m hopeful we break that cycle though.

Tough night, but proud Of this season as a life long fan and alum. Great group of guys.

Illini had 3 assists as a team. Keaton had 2 of the 3. Guess who had the only other one?

Hint: it wouldn't be your first, second or probably even third guess.

After seeing Kylans emotional post game interview I just honestly hope hes ok. This isn't even the same person.

What an amazing and fun season. Thank you to the team for the memories. This team had so much personality they will be remembered forever. I hope we can bring everyone back that is eligible. This is a step on the way that will bring us a NC soon (I hope!).

Indy is a great city to host the games and I can see why the B10 tourney is a fixture there as well. Illini fans showed up in droves and it was a lot of fun. Lucas Oil got LOUD a couple of times. Wish the stadium announcer would have vocalized fouls or plays a little more. Some of us were wondering what happened after a whistle on more than one occasion. (And it's sad the camera people didn't know Deron!)

We stayed for some of the UM-AZ game. The AZ students didn't travel well to this game, but they did have a vocal contingent in the stands. They showed the "Fab 5" on the jumbotron and it made me wish Juwan was still their coach.

Quick question - did Peja finally wear orange?!!😀

Also, I have to ask those at the game, did Hurley seem surprised he was boo'd so loudly during his postgame comments? I think everyone except the UConn fans were booing. 😆

A season to remember. And we SHOULD have most of our mainstays back next season. Could be an even better season next year. When you're as old as I am, you live one day at a time and pray you'll be around to find out. Peace, brothers.

Bad time for a rough shooting game. But still had a chance. Emphasis on a full 40 minutes needs to be hammered home next year. Hoping we return the majority as it could definitely be another Final Four run.

Don't hang your heads young men. You took us to our first final four in over 20 years. You played your hearts out but our shots weren't falling and they were getting all the lucky bounces. The Illini nation is proud of you and all that you have accomplished this year. I am confident that we will make our way their again soon with Brad and his coaching staff leading the way.
Starting 2 freshmen don’t forget -great season

This team made a run that I didn't expect after faltering down the stretch. Credit all players and staff for getting off the floor and showing the "FIGHT" in Fighting Illini. It is possible if the chips fall into place -meaning-Andrej, Mirk, Twins, Davis come back for another go round and Brad picks up a couple of Bruisers inside they could make another run.
The sad thing for me is losing an all American 18 year old kid in Keaton Wagler. It happens every year now with the portal. I hope the NCAA gets some balls and puts a stop to the multiple transfers and maybe even makes these kids stay for 2 years. I can only imagine what another year of Keaton and Mirk together would be.
I wish Boz, Hum, and all of them the best in the future whatever they do or wherever they go.
I will be turning 80 in a couple of months, my hope of a National Title is waning, but I thank this group of guys for the excitement they brought to Champaign. I will treasure sharing this excitement with my son and grandson. Go Illini!

We have a lot to be thankful for, but still heartbroken for our guys. Not certain what the future holds, but will treasure the ride this team gave us, they are special and the memories will last forever. Thanks for all the hard work, unselfishness and class you all carried yourselves with.
