I would agree, but it depends on who that star point guard is. According to DB’s post earlier, sounds like we’re hunting even bigger than Jalen Cox from Colgate.

In your scenario, the starting 5 would be:

Transfer PG
Coleman
Stojakovic
Mirkovic
Tomi / Z

Coming off a final 4, that would get a lot of buzz nationally.
I thought Indy felt we may bring in 2 transfers and the freshman would back up. Also, Coleman is great and a recent signee but i wouldnt automatically place him above Morrillo who is playing in the Nike World Summit, is taller and very skilled. I hope we bring in transfers that are elite and will be on par with Andre, TSJ or Domask. Maybe even better and give the young players leadership and time to grow. Like Michigan did with more than just 2. If we dont i wouldnt expect us as a top 5 program. We are losing 2 stud guards in Kylan and Keaton and expecting another freshman to start and fill one of those 2 guards roles is a lot. I hope we add a couole stud transfers. Not just 1

Peja was a career 40% shooter from 3. I would hope that we would be able to get his son to shoot atleast 33% from 3 next year
I think Jake is helping him too, may be partner the deal of them finding him a balkin wife

Based on what I’m hearing …

Next years roster has a real chance to be BETTER than this years roster …
IMO, we have to get more athletic and more physical. Brad can help fix the second part, but the first part is a problem. Let's just be honest. Michigan would have run us out of the gym. It happened too Zona and it'll happen to UCONN too. Outside of Drej, I don't think we had the ability to stop them on the wing.

It'll be interesting. Really interesting.

Gonna wait until tomorrow, but will have some introduction offseason stuff. Will have a lot of stuff for everyone next week, things are really going to pick up on Tuesday when the portal opens. Retention/adding 2-3 key pieces will be the focus.
Will we be adding Europeans

💯💯💯💯

All around 👍

I give credit to Dusty May as well. He didn't miss last offseason. No coach did better. And they're missing Cason, who'd be starting for a very large majority of teams in America (much like the rest of the guys on Michigan's bench). Such a well balanced, athletic, physical team on both ends of the court. Completely wiped the floor with an Arizona team loaded with future NBA guys

Need to add more athleticism and shooting. From the second half of the UCLA game on we were a brick factory from the three-point line.

Tonight was not an anomaly.
In order
1) bring back Mirk
2) bring back Stoj
3) bring back twins. If Z wants to go start somewhere then that’s fine but definitely tomi. This gives you a good veteran returning core.
4) find a senior point guard from a high major (explosive athlete/steady ball handler/set up man)
5) find two new role players from mid majors to replace Humichrous and Davis (whom I assume goes to start somewhere)

Veteran PG
Stoj
Mid major wing (shooting/defense)
Mirk
Tomi

Coleman
Other mid major wing (shooting/effort/hustle)
Z

Morillo/Brown/L. Davis/any other current player that wants to stay

The problem wasn’t them beating us off the bounce. We couldn’t contain their off ball screening, which gave us fits.

I have no problem with Coleman starting. Especially if the other 4 are: Tomi, Mirk, Stoj, TBD stud point guard.

but what if he inherited his shooting ability from his mom ?

More athletic … Need a backup big that is a different piece than Tomi and Z … Kind of like a Dainja type guy where we can put him in and it’s just a different piece …

Also need another sniper … Ideally a 4 man who can flat out shoot it and guard …

Retain everyone, get two good guards, and meet me in Detroit next year.

That’s not how this works. It’s never just plug and play, lose and replace.

Yes we’re losing two really good guards, but now Mirkovic / Stojakovic / Tomislav will all have more opportunity and be more featured. Hence, their production will receive an uptick.

A very talented freshman like Coleman starting is not going to devalue our program. Doesn’t hurt that we’ve produced 3 freshman first round picks in last TWO seasons.

If you’re a lead guard in the portal, is there really a better spot than Illinois right now?

1) consistent team that’s good every year
2) wide open opportunity with top two guards moving on
3) final four team that has a good shot at retaining a lot of key players
4) strong track record of putting Ayo, Shannon, Jakucionas, Wagler in the NBA
5) presumably competitive NIL offer with big ten revenue stream and passionate fanbase

From an objective perspective, that’s the kind of place the top guys in the portal should be fighting each other to get an offer to.

If Brad doesn’t land an absolute stud shooting guard who can consistently hit the three and a veteran PG that shoots 32-35% 3FG, next year’s team likely doesn’t make the Final Four.

While making this year’s FF was amazing, we have to remember Illinois was a 3 seed that caught major breaks to get that far. They were still a very flawed team. Brad needs to make some tweaks to roster construction if he expects to make it back to the FF and especially to win a title.

We did not expect Keaton to be this good. Also. What makes you think that Coleman is better than Morrillo. I dont mind if Coleman earns it but we need to try and find someone more proven like the All ACC guards Blackwell or a player like that. I would prefer not to bet the success of being a top tier program of an inproven freshman. If we have the cash i dont think the staff plans to either. Mivhigan will likely win it all and they diid it by bringing in Yaxel, Mara, Rez as the top players as the key guys. I hope we do too. If a freshman pops again thats awesome but i hope the go after 2 transfers that they hope to start and will at least replace Boz and Wagler as a duo. Thats what we need to win it all.

Jake Davis was thrust into the starting lineup due to injuries and was able to gel with the core group and make it work but in my opinion he was exposed in the NCAAT. Mediocre defense at best and poor shooting made him a pretty big liability and a spot in the roster that needs an upgrade to take this team to the next level. He has hit his ceiling on adding tangible benefits to the team.

It's kinda fascinating the way the work of our insiders causes this board to UNDER-estimate how good our team is every year.

The roster WILL be a huge disappointment versus the Cult of Denzel expectations, and then lo and behold, they're really good and beating so many of the players that we "missed" on.
