I watched Certa play several times this year. I don’t think he cares too much about defense now either.

Indy Illini Fan is Aiden Sherrell going to Michigan? That is a big I would love and would take over the twins. He is a monster. I know you put him on here a few weeks ago. Sounds like Michigan has been tampering with him though

Maybe but none of the elite teams are really returning a ton of talent. Obviously they will add a ton in the portal and with freshman but most of the top seeded teams are all basically losing everyone.

Florida should return Fland, Condon, and Chinyelu(unless Fland goes pro for some reason).

Texas Tech could potentially return Toppin and Anderson(I think Anderson likely goes pro). But McCasland is a great coach and a healthy Toppin would make them a force regardless.

Michigan should lose Morez, Mara, and Yaxel. Arizona will lose their entire team. Duke will again have a team of mostly freshman. Purdue will lose Smith, TKR, and Loyer. UConn will lose Karaban, Ball, and Reed. Houston will lose all of their guards.

Next year really looks wide open and there is no reason Illinois can't be a preseason top 3-5 team if they return Stojakovic, Mirkovic, and the Twins and adds talent to that group.

I get the comparison to Purdue this year but I thought it was clear that Purdue would struggle with athletic teams before the season. Illinois will need to add some guys with athleticism on the perimeter to avoid that but Illinois will likely return a lot more size.

That isn’t likely.

Word in Austin is that Swain is going through the draft process 100%. If he does withdraw, Texas is certain to pay up and UT has more money thank Brinks. They know if he returns he could portal, but if goes deep into through the draft process it would be late and both Texas and other programs could fill up by the time he does. He values Miller and his belief to recruit him and bring him to Texas.

Texas is going all in like they have in football. Their AD wants all of their programs challenging for national championships which men’s basketball is one of the few slouches in the entire athletic dept. even with their deep tourney run. They have 3 incoming McD AAs and will be one of the top teams next year and Swiain knows it.

Reading through all this, I keep asking myself this question…is Blackwell an EDG?

i rarely consider anything over 50% likely in portal season. But i want it.

Need a big 6’9” type athletic 4 ala Morez for defense on PF in the league and let Mirk play the three. Did this early with Dre out and played Ben with Tomi and Mirk. Don’t like the idea of playing undersized 4’s like Ty and Jake would be.

Can’t Bilic be the Humrichous replacement?

I’m really high on both freshman guards, Coleman and Murillo. A backcourt with those two and Blackwell would be great if you run offense through Mirk.

I think the same about Bilic. He’s 6-9 and a pretty good shooter and looks to put the ball on the floor and drive more willingly than BH. Mirk is also a fan of him.

Illinois was in on the ground floor for John Blackwell. It was nowhere near a surprised that he hopped in the portal.

Now that he actually entered, the money is growing exponentially with some heavy hitters getting in.

Still think Illinois will be right there.

This is the same story on every big recruit/transfer before we ultimately get priced out and go bargain hunting in the Balkans. NIL is only going up, so hopefully we have the resources to cover the market inflation.

I'd love Blackwell, but even if we don't get him, I trust Brad to get a high quality player. He's proven it over and over.

If it happens, Mirk + Blackwell + Davis + 1 or both of the twins = a very solid foundation of veteran, tested players. Add Coleman, Morillo and maybe Ty and you already have the makings of a Top 10 team. Add one more big portal piece and….wow!
Oops…I forgot Andrej 😂😂😂
