I don't think Illinois really went after him that hard. Wiscy did. Illinois has had a lot of good guards the past seven years.

There's no established lead guard in that lineup with a good enough assist to turnover ratio to trust with running our offense, bringing the ball up the court, snd making the key pass that gets us shots we need. Good, athletic teams would press that lineup to death.

As good as Michigan’s frontline was this year it was Elliott Cadeau who made it all work.

A primary ball-handler and initiator is key. We got lucky that our’s also happened to be one of the best scorers in the country.

We were unbelievably spoiled to have Keaton. In my estimation, he’s in the elite category of Deron Williams and Ayo of program changers.

I simply don’t see how there is any path to improve as a team after losing Keaton. He single-handedly won us games we had no business winning (see @Purdue). He refused to get bullied by Michigan and UConn and scored 20pts in both of those games.

I’ll be pleasantly surprised to see where this team is come conference season in 8 months. But unless we can find an elite offense initiating gaurd (that is NOT Blackwell) we’re in for a disappointing season to follow-up a Final Four.

In a game against Iowa where Stirtz was cooking us, Keaton saved us. We had some of the fewest turnovers in the country. Once again due to Keaton being our primary ball handler.

Every single time we’re led by an All American player like TSJ or Keaton we’re running into buzzsaw teams like 2024 UConn and 2026 Michigan. I love the projection on Mirk. But is he ready to be a 1st/2nd team All American next year?

A Glue-Guy. And a Leader. Qualities any team has to have on the floor.

And a guy who loved the old-home enough to come back and nearly bring home the big prize.

When you played against him on the floor he looked like someone you did NOT want to mess with...

I think Duke will end up with Blackwell. Kids want to be able to say they played at Duke. It’s sickening but it’s what happens. He will regret it in the long run but it’s similar to how players wanted to play Kentucky (of course that’s not happening anymore lol).
