One thing that should be noted is Blackwell played with Nick Boyd (and succeeded wonderfully). He was not the alpha on that team, Boyd was.

So, I'd imagine he's capable of co-existing with other good players.

I was always impressed with how patient he was in Big10 games and let the game come to him. He never forced things but still ended up with 20 points. Exactly the type of guy this team, with their unselfish nature and passing needs. Now if we can get Stoj to occasionally look up while driving and get a couple assists per game, look out... :)

What do you think the staff is headed out west to sell him on....
It's simple- you ask Blackwell if he's serious about competing for Natty's.. If he is, less volume and more talent around you is the answer to winning. Case in point- Andrej this recent season.

There's announcements coming this week. Be patient (if possible).

Ben replacement …

He would be the perfect backup to Mirk - plays our style of offense as a stretch 4 - bring size and passing skill along with it. Can also play center obviously if needed. He won't have the defensive versatility that Ben brought, but like we said, we're not going to find that out there.

For those in the know, would Blackwell be ok with a lower usage rate and being asked to actually defend if he comes here? Mirk usage will go up. Vaaks obviously is going to have the ball a ton. Stoj needs shots. There's only 1 ball.
Obviously if he wants to come here, great. However, an elite 3 and D guy might be more of what we need instead of another volume scorer. Things change if we lose Stoj or Mirk.
I have no inside info. I think Blackwell wants to win. I think he wants a F4, a national championship. He obviously wants to be a big part of that success and be paid well for it. There's a reason he's tied to big boy programs right now. I don't think Blackwell would have a problem with sliding to 15 ppg if he gets to experience March Madness.

My only question is, does Blackwell want to be the guy, as in the PG on a team? He's always been second fiddle at Wisconsin. Does he want to keep playing that role or does he want to be Keaton Wagler? Because I think Vaaks is clearly going to be the primary ball handler at ILL next season.

Not sure how much truth is in this, but saw it posted on FB. Hoping it is just wishful thinking by a Louisville fan.

Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like a villain from an Austin Powers movie.
Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like Russell Brand's alter ego.
Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like a British indie wrestler.
Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like the guitar player of an 80s rock band that still opens for Def Leppard at State Fairs.
Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like a character in a television series Aaron Sorkin wrote while he was smocking crack.
Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like someone who has insider knowledge of Louisville hoops from his days as Rick Pitino's lookout.
Bolliver Shagnasty. He sounds like he used to be the limo driver for Louisville hoopers when they went to...late night entertainment venues.

If John Blackwell’s name was Johan Blackojevich he’d have been committed to the Illini already.
That's too close to Blagojevich, please no...painful memories of a string of our wonderful governors

Wonder if we lose Morillo or Jake if Blackwell signs.

We're not the only folks that know Underwood commonly plays 8-9 guys..

But we’re also not the only ones that realize basketball rosters have 12-15 players. It’s not like they can just go leave and find a team that will promise to only give out 8 scholarships.

Yeah, the name of the account made me believe it is likely just the hopes of a Louisville fan. I doubt there's much truth in it.

It blows my mind to see 6'10" guys playing 31 minutes who average two and a half rebounds a game. Obviously that would change at Illinois. Regardless, it's still baffling to me.
Probably why he might be willing to settle for a backup role at Illinois... We aren't getting a double-double machine to play the 8-9 mpg where Mirk is resting. He can shoot it, so he won't bog down the offense.
Our coaches believe they can teach defense and rebounding... Shooting comes more slowly, and this guy can already do it.

This is very true and distinguishes Blackwell among other scorer-type portal options, among them AJ Storr.

But it's also another way of saying that he's an off-ball player and not an offense initiator.

Vaaks helps there to a degree. But I think people are underestimating how different an offense that replaces Wagler and Boswell with Vaaks/Coleman/Blackwell would be. We're going to have to play faster, ball movement in the half court just isn't going to be the same.
