Maybe that makes it a better fit?

With the retention we're hoping for, if we get Blackwell too, do we get Mingo and stash him for a year, sell him on starting as a redshirt Freshman the following season and potentially being the next Illini lead guard to go one-and-done?

That'd be a fun idea. However, it would mark the third guard to be here next year; we already have Vaaks and Coleman.

Bit OT .... the 2028 team can be pretty good: can return Mirk, Vaaks, Coleman, Rodgers, Morillo.

Sure some could leave, but some could also stay!

If Mingo wants to sign up for it - sure!

Assuming Coleman, Mingo, and Morillo all stay though and Vaaks leaves (big if), that just seems awfully crowded for the #9 recruit.

Also I have no idea how NIL would shake out for a guy ranked that high, but on a redshirt year. Just seems like a lot of moving parts

Yeah for sure, but I also feel like there's a decent chance Vaaks is in the 2027 NBA draft.
