Xrays with measurable growth plates as well please and thank youI would still need neck length measurements before I'm satisfied with that.

The idea that every aspect of college basketball coaching can be neatly separated into two distinct buckets, "Recruiting" and "X's and O's" was an oversimplification in 2006 and is basically just plain wrong today.I guess it depends on how you define X and O. Weber gets a wild amount of credit for his Xs & Os while only focusing on man to man D and running the same motion offense with no real willingness to change. I don't think being 4th/5th in D efficiency and 104th/116th in O is showing good Xs & Os.
Brad has had top offenses in 3 distinct styles and has had multiple Ds as good as Weber's; he gets a bad rap because his first 2 teams were awful defensively and 2023 was bad. Removing their 2 worst overall teams, BU's teams have average 26th in defensive efficiency, Weber averaged 23rd.
Bonus point: Even if ranked 80th in D, it's not hard to argue 2023 in particular was a masterclass in pivoting styles while facing adversity (this is an X&O skill IMO).
It might take a while, but Illinois will add another player to its roster.
There are quite a few agents making inquirers. They have to sort through those and see who fits.
I suspect Ty will command more on the open market, where some team will over pay for him based on his play before redshirting and the injury, than he would receive to come off the bench at Illinois. He’s a beloved figure here, but he has a finite time to maximize his NIL earnings so he’d be wise to do that elsewhere.Right now, I'd be very happy with Ty being our next "addition." Absent injury, he's not going to start (which may be a no-go for him). But I think he would play a lot because he can do the things we need given our roster make-up. Can defend 1-4, handle the ball fairly well, and is a beast of a rebounder. And he's certainly not "ball-dominant."
We have only 1 experienced big man in Big Z to back up 2 positions. What if there foul trouble or god forbid an injury. Thats not the same thing as having 2 bodies. Big Z backing up the 5 and someone like Ben backing up the 4 and Z to help as needed. I just hope Tomi, Z or Mirk dont go down or miss nig games. If so then what? Thats a big part of roster construction that seems risky. I hope we add a big guy. Some fans won't be happy until we have signed at least 7 lead guards, 3rd string 4s and 5s that would start on a lower-tier tournament team, and 17 wings that can shoot the three, guard, and drive it to the hoop.
Any guess at what our pace will be next year?
Possessions per 40 by year:
2026 — 65.7 (somewhere between 306-312 nationally)
2025 — 72.4 (somewhere between 12-15 nationally)
2024 — 70.3 (75 or 76 nationally)
2023 — 69.6 (somewhere between 93-97)
2022 — 67.6 (somewhere between 199-207)
2021 — 71.0 (somewhere between 94-97)

I’d be curious how many minutes Jake and Andrej played together last year and it’s “effectiveness”. Also think for Brad’s positionless style, it would be an interesting tool to play around with
If Brad saw someone like that sub in vs us how long do think he puts in Mirk or Z to abuse them? Likely before he reaches the scorers table tp check in! Lol. If Tomi and or Mirk get in foul trouble themln i guess a healthy Jason will be in. I wish we would add a true 4 man to try and fill Bens role.
Any insight on what position they’re looking for?
I dont think Morrillo will play the 4 in B10 for 5 minutes all season unless we have an injury. If so, thats scary to me.No one is saying he's a 30 Min/game PF. But he can give you "spot" minutes there as well as 1-3. If we need someone behind T, Z, and Mirk, he's it (as of now).
And not every opponent has a beastlie 6'9 PF to defend. Not even close.
He wasn't brought here "to back up Mirk." Next season, his likely role is to help out at spots 1-4 as needed. Likely as our 8th guy in the rotation if everyone ahead of him is healthy.
Insiders have said Brad does not give guaranteed starter promises. You don't think Andrej didn't get promised a starting role in the post season negotiations? If he didn't, he probably wouldn't have stayed. He could have also got more money by leaving.
The Davis vs Andrej thing is pretty simple. Yes, Davis started at the end of last year. No, Davis probably won't be starting next year. Andrej and Boswell couldn't really play at the same time at the end of last year. Boswell started, Andrej didn't.
Coleman is a true shooting guard (Boswell isn't). Coleman and Andrej should fit better together than end of year Andrej and Boswell.
And KJ signed May 29th and Will signed June 23rd. The staff knows how to find guys over the summer. I don't know why some of y'all are stressing.I think they would consider a guard or a big. It might come down to what things look like in summer workouts. They added Petrovic in late July last year.
Thanks for the kind words- I enjoy the conversations here with you as well.I agree. But hey, I respect @wc_illini , he’s always got level headed and fair takes.
And reading all his previous posts, this seems mostly about depth, which if that’s the main point I think is entirely fair.
No shade, I just disagreed with that point. I enjoy bantering on lineups and roster build far more than adjustment talks anyway, these are all good and fun “problems”
I personally ranked last year's team 4th since 88 89. You can quable about an exact number but 05 06 is somewhere around 6th 7th......this team is appearing to start at the 5th spot. Slightly worse then last year's. So closer to the 0506 team then the first spot. Only 2 guys who started the final four will be starting this year unless something changes I believe thats the same at 06.
If everyone plays to their max ability they can jump way up the list. A couple injuries and or underperfoming at the wrong spots they can drop off.
The lurkers thank you for your views. We are legion. He's the 4th option at guard for now. Good god this fanbase is getting worse by the day.

Jake and Andrej played 282 minutes together and we were +16.8 in net rating (vs +22.3 for our entire team avg). Our ORTG was the same as our avg, but our defense was worse.
….
But seriously, unless we're the clear preseason favorite (odds, not media), there's room for improvement. Whether anything can be done about it is another story.
Then it will be “how can we be considered great if we don’t repeat!”The bar of dissatisfaction has been raised again. It wasn't all that long ago that a top 25 raking was a great season. Then they needed to finish 2rd or 3rd in the BT regular season with a semi final appearance in the the BT tourney to be considered enough. A Sweet 16 was mandatory as well.
Now, unless they win it all some fans will consider the season a failure. The team is required to have 15 lottery eligible players or the team has no depth whatsoever.
High 60's. 26, 23 and 22 type pace.Any guess at what our pace will be next year?

The problem with a lot of these takes is that this is being presented to only be obtainable through the portal.
It’s like some are ignoring just how big of a bust Petro was in relation to expectations, while simultaneously ignoring that the room for (roster) improvement is already in the room.
Im giving these freshman all the minutes they can get.
The chances that a portal addition is a bust is at least equal to, if not greater at this point, than all of our freshmen are a bust.
I guess you feel ok rolling the dice that no one gets hurt and not having a player similar to what Ben did last year is no big deal. That possibility of only 1 real experience back up worries me. Thats why Ben was important and adding someone like that would ease my concerns quite a bit considering how often Tomi and Z miss games. Hopefully Mirk wont either.I mean its just not going to be that big of a deal... we can counter matchups with substitutions just like other teams do.
2024-25 we saw that a 3-man rotation at the 4-5 spot got thin in a hurry when Tomi was out for a few games and then Morez. I too would like to see a 4th big added. Insurance! We have only 1 experienced big man in Big Z to back up 2 positions. What if there foul trouble or god forbid an injury. Thats not the same thing as having 2 bodies.
