I guess the ol' Montana vibe is not connecting with defensive recruits.
Also, can Bart Miller just not recruit, or is it more of a money thing with prep OL?
I'll be nice and describe our actual OL recruiting vs what I thought it would be under BB as "underwhelming."
I just can not understand this part of our prep recruiting. Makes no sense given BB history

Bart is bad at recruiting and developing HS recruits. I really wonder how BB keeps him around.

I hope we are doing a good job keeping our class of 1 engaged. Thankfully he's a legacy

You just cannot be seen as serious with recruits and you're all for their well being, best interest, etc. and you have a school willing to pay them 2, sometimes maybe 3, etc. times more. How much do you really care? And as much as anyone wants to argue against it, it's right in most cases.

You can argue school reputations, etc. but top NCAA teams are generally seen/ranked as top institutions as well (Not even factoring successful alums, campus life, etc.). I'm not pressing the panic button in recruiting, but they definitely need to change some things up. They've got enough evidence as a development program for it to be a strong sell, but they're still lacking in other areas. And BB has to know he needs to hire some guys with connections as well (And not in some small capacity).

Johnson is pretty good so you just have to build from there. I don't have any doubts they will, but I'm more intrigued to see who it will be.

Seems like it, we've gotten more $, but we're not keeping pace with the top 15 or so, would be my guess.

I'd also guess that the hoops success has stolen some potential $ from football, but that is pure speculation.

bball is going more nil support because we made a final 4 and donors are putting up more money.

Some college teams are spending over 40 million. The number I heard for our roster was 15 million.

Prep evals and development have been bad. But he has done a good job with the transfers and juco players. Knapik, Adams, Davis, Gesky, Palcho, Lowe..etc have all developed under Miller.

right now Henderson and McMillen are the only prep recruits that have started. Champ smith and Hansen are guys that will also play this year. Tuerk also has a chance to play.

A guy like Wagner will cost a ton of money. It doesn’t make sense for us to spend a ton of money on him so he can sit for a couple years. Lopati would’ve cost a few million. It makes no sense for us to pay that for him to come in and develop for a year or 2

The results of this recruiting class seem unprecedented in the BB era. One commit is currently the lowest of all Big Ten teams and it's not close as a lot of teams have 10+ commits. The IL high school class is all over the place and not for its home State school, which is baffling given the focus over the years on the in-state recruits. These other schools can't have more money than IL, but perhaps the allocation of $$ for retention is disproportionate. Hard to say, but the results are not looking good. I believe in BB, though so we will see how this shakes out!!

I’m sure he’s banking on 5 for 5 passing. If that happens we can bring guys back like Faegin, Henderson, Juice Clarke and Abney. It’ll also mean a lot more guys will be in the portal. Time will tell if he played his cards right.
