Big NIL budget problems for Illinois football.
Oh really? I wonder how that happened? Unless Josh Whitman figures something out soon, BB will be gone in 2 years. We will see plenty of 2-10 and 3-9 seasons here real soon the way things are going. People will blame bret for not winning and it won't be his fault. The University pretty much betrayed him and the football program. My frustration level over this is extremely high. We finally have a good coach and we start turning things around and then the University pretty much gives him the middle finger.

Did not anticipate the speed at which the market would explode and pass them by.
Well then someone was sleeping

On the flip side for basketball we are a big spender. Look how we came in and outbid Wake for KJ and Quintin Coleman.

Michigan is giving Lopati 3.5 million. We aren’t close to being able to compete with that.
If the top programs are able pay that much to unproven prep recruits to sit on the bench it kinda feels like we’re regressing toward the pre-scholarship limit days when they’d horde as many prospects as possible just to keep them away from teams lower down the food chain.

Obviously they aren’t paying everyone that kind of money to sit. Qb is the most important position and they are fine paying him that make to wait a couple years. The top college football rosters were are over 40-50 million. We are about half of that. Hopefully they put a salary cap in. Another issue is other schools make nil offers that they’ll never end up paying. Miami is known for it.

According to?

I don’t have any other knowledge to base things off other than this message Board and common sense, just curious as to what makes you feel this way.

That is not one at one time. That 3.5 million will be paid over a 4 year period while at Michigan. Underwood got 10 million but it's actually 2.5 million a year. If that 5 for5 passes then you will see very good players taking pay cuts just to play on a Power 4 team.
