Oh what a stud Harper was (for us) right from the get-go; An uncommonly mature, strong and arrogant freshman whose athleticism was off the charts. As for McDonald's stuff, I don't know. What I do know is Lowell Hamilton was #1 high school player in the nation according to Street & Smith, and Marcus Liberty the same for Parade magazine.
Guys. Appreciate the lists but "feels like" was intended to reference that it's been 15 years since we had a HS recruit McDAA.

I remember Harper well. He went pro a year early, and set a record in the NBA by increasing his scoring average for nine (?) years in a row... Never a great shooter but a very good ball handler, defensive player and driver. Big guard at that time (about 6'4") out of Florida... Heart and soul of the Illini.

Back then, you had to declare “hardship” if you wanted to go pro early. In other words, you had to prove that you and/or your family were in deep financial need. Imagine how quickly that draconian rule would be shot down in court today.
