first game: 30min, 8pts, 0reb, 2-6 FG, 2-4 from 3.

second game: 25min, 7pts, 3reb, 3-5 FG, 1-3 from 3.
I'm fine with those unimpressive numbers by Danilo vs Gonzaga. Many posters seem to think that any additional big man that Illinois adds would only be playing 5-10 minutes per game next season. So, the price for Illinois to get a transfer by Danilo might only need to top whatever dollar amount he was receiving from Pepperdine. And he would have another year of eligibility left after the coming season, when Tomi and Big Z will probably be gone. (I say "probably" due to unknown details regarding the 5-in-5 proposal.) Plus, Danilo could possibly develop further in that extra year. He's a European to boot! But Illinois might be saved from getting his visa in order. And he might be able to join the team early this summer vs arriving just before school starts. [This guy's no superstar for sure. But it seems like he might be a relatively inexpensive depth piece in the Illinois frontcourt.]

Would love one more deep at the 4/5 spot!
A couple of posters have mentioned 6'10", 225-pound, sophomore C/PF Danilo Dozic (Pepperdine) as a possible 4/5 depth addition. [Serbia]

I have mentioned 6'9", 245-pound, junior PF David Fuchs (San Francisco) as another possible 4/5 depth addition. [Austria]

Illinois probably wouldn't need to wait until the end of August, or the beginning of September, to bring either player to Champaign.

In what sense?

The talent in the McAA is objectively better collectively.
McAA only includes American prep recruits. No international prospects except for those that come here for high school. Nike Hoops Summit has both international and prep prospects. The best American preps often play in both, but international preps can't play in the McAA game.

International prospects are kind of a big deal. Sure 2025 McAA was loaded because 2025 American prep class was loaded. But a lot of top notch prospects like KJ and Mirk aren't eligible for the McAA.

Quick question. Is Central Connecticut State a directional school?
It has to be. Any other direction would put the school in another state ... or the Long Island Sound.

It’s SIGNIFICANTLY harder to make the McD AA game (as an American) than the hoops summit (as an international).

As an aside, Rich McBride was rated #1 in his class in like 8th grade or freshman year. He was fully grown by basically freshman year of high school so had a physical advantage. As he got older he started having some injury troubles that took away some of his pop by the time he got to Illinois. Still a good player but not a top prospect.
Andre Iguodala ended up being, BY FAR, the better player on that Lanphier team.

Story is that Mr. Duke offered Princeton a ton of dough, on condition that they rename the school after him. They said no, so he built his own university, matching the style and several of the buildings (complete with soft concrete so it would age faster).
Most of this is probably myth, but it's a good story.
Like calling Stanford "the Leland Stanford JUNIOR University."
Well, the Dukes did have lots o'cash back in the day.

pretty sure the portal is going to get active tho once draft combine completes and the 5 in 5 stuff settles in.... there's still money to be made and playing time out there for Rodgers. But I, for one, would be stoked to see him back in an orange script this fall, historical shortcomings and all. We will have a ton of pretty reliable shooting, but Ty can apply some rim pressure and movement. Kylan did that at times last year as well, when needed. There are going to be times in the season that we have to win in different ways, Ty adds the potential of some "different ways".
can't fall in love with your own supply although if it is Ty or nothing, give me Ty although we can and should do better

Prediction: Will Riley's season at Illinois is going to get better and better as people talk about it in retrospect.
Think Will Riley is a much more apt comparison for Coleman than Wagler. Riley bigger but expect their roles to be much closer.
