NBA Draft

#178
He's coming back.

He does want to go to the NBA (As does everyone), but the draft stock is just not there right now to qualify him going and passing up five times the money in school.

Next year I expect him to have a chance at the first round if he can make improvements in various parts of his game.

If he can get a guarantee of a second-round pick exception and standard contract, he is staying in the Draft. He might even stay without the exemption if its a 2-year deal partially guaranteed.

He will come back if its likely going to be a two-way contract or a standard contract with no guaranteed money (which appears likely at this point).

I'll gladly admit if I am wrong. He is coming back to Illinois.

Yes it seems extremely likely we will again have the tallest starting unit in CBB

Vaaks 6’7 > Wagler 6’5
Coleman 6’4 > Boswell 6’2

*assumes these players are starting of course
Not only did Illinois have the tallest team in the nation last year, we had the second-tallest team since KenPom started tracking average height in 2007.

Michigan played big but had a lot of contributors <6'5". Illinois' only player less than 6'6" to see the court was Kylan, everyone else sub 6'6" played less than 8% of minutes (keeping in mind that Keaton has been listed at 6'6" until the very recent draft measurement).

The only taller team is 2018 Syracuse by 0.1 Inch. To your point, Illinois will be even taller this year, and will almost certainly be the tallest team in modern NCAA history.

This sounds like a really poor decision if it were to break this way...I can't see this happening

If he genuinely wants to get drafted and move up on draft boards, why didn’t he play in the 5 on 5?

Financially, it doesn't make sense for Andrej to leave. But the variable here is that, financially, Andrej's circumstances are a little different than most.

Still though, going from one of the highest paid, featured stars on one of cbb's premier teams to playing for the Stockton Kings on a teacher's salary would be one of the biggest downgrades ever.

If Andrej had performed better in the shooting drills, I would be more concerned. Still, we have seen countless guys make mind bogglingly horrific decisions in the past.

This would be one.

Keaton just performed a lot better than expected on the vertical jumps.
I remain a bit concerned for Keaton that his measurables will damper his draft stock a bit, but that's encouraging for him staying in the top 8 for sure.

What was expected? Of the 8 guards that have been measured he finished 6th.

Not saying these results are bad at all. Just it's also not like he knocked it out of the park. Seems to be in line with expectations for an area that is not one of his strengths. Maybe better than expected if you watched his film and all you thought was "he's not athletic at all."

His standing vertical was better than Andrej's and is currently in the top 10. That is much better than scouts expected.

I'll let the dooming continue.

Andrej will be back.

The five on five decision should tell you all you need to know.

THIS is what I found odd for no other reason that I didn't/don't know what it means. I asked the question and I still don't. Does it mean he wasn't invited or he just chose not to? A lot of guys choose not to(usually the top guys) because all a bad showing can do is hurt you.

Andrej is obviously showing great measurables and is mid tier in the shooting drills, but as we've seen with most guys.... measurables and drills don't always track with production. The 5 v 5 would paint a MUCH better picture.

So, again.....I don't know what this decision means or who made it.
