He didn't "produce" them. He borrowed them for a year. Same as most of the lottery picks from Duke, NC, and a few others.

Technically, they were produced by their parents. Cal just convinced them to take the bag from UK. Pope has the bag now. Can he make those dollars go farther?

Yeah, I hear ya, but based on highlight reels I'd love to have him. He's a "true" pg and suitably arrogant.
I have no doubt he could do very well here unfortunately he dont have the positional size and etc daddy brad is looking for. I just really hope he dont go to a rival big ten school and be a Jermy fears 2.0 but less dirty. But I have faith in coach finding the right player for his vision of what he wants. It really shows how great of a position coach has us in when were letting a possibly top 25 player walk because he doesn't fit our system and the fan base has been so mild about it just a little ways back the torches and mobs would of formed in full force thats true growth for the program. Great times ahead ILL

But what did Larue think?
wow .......La-Rue.....he didn't like my humor and I didn't like his constant pessimism about EVERYTHING.........I really really didn't........

sorry , my stroke has corrupted my memory banks.......wasn't he also on the old Brumby-board..........all I can remember for sure is he was an eternal glass half empty dude........never understood how some posters liked his thoughts and posts.........

Are we really married to the positional size thing, or is it just a differentiating factor, all else being relatively equal? I have a hard time believing we'd pass on a top 20 kid because he isn't tall enough.

If he has entourage or attitude issues, maybe...

I thought we passed on Jeremy Fears because we wanted his brother, and they weren't going to play together due to both wanting to play point. (maybe I'm misremembering...)

From 1998-2016, 19 years spanning 4 head coaches, 28 top 100 players. From 2017-2026, 10 years and 1 head coach, 27 top 100 players.

One more and he will have matched Kruger, Self, Weber, and Groce combined.
9 of Underwoods are transfers and assuming the ranking is based on high school, but still impressive. Also the greater player movement makes it more likely to have higher numbers.

He and Mason Martin are the modern day version of Jim Stack and Kevin Boyle.
Wow the old St. Laurence HS pair. Those were some great IHSA tournament teams.

Boyle went to Iowa 10 ppg 6 rbg played for some very good Lute Olson teams. went to NCAA 4 years in row including 1 final 4

Stack went to NW where he averaged 14 ppg for some very bad teams. He worked in NBA and was GM of Timberwolves for 5 years.

No, those dollars don't go as far, because lots of teams have a bag now.

In fairness to the other guys, the volume of the transfer portal gives underwood bites at the Apple. By this definition, Colorado state getting Carey Booth counts coming off not playing at Illinois.

That said, you can clearly see the level of talent is high and even just looking at HS recruits (which all doesn’t count a guy like KJ or Mirk)
Yeah a lot of dudes have transferred out (15!). IMO it's a good thing, allows for accountability and competition that was missing during the end of Weber & Groce.

But if we're counting where they ended up then Weber/Groce lose 8: Legion, Coleman-lands, Carwell, Nunn, Shaw, Henry, Head, & DJ Williams. ...All before you could transfer freely.

I don't think we have a final 4 team in 05 under the current rules. At least 2 of Dee, Deron & Luther follow Self. Given how pissed he was he might have taken the entire starting 5..

What are the numbers for average number of top 100 recruits/year by coach? I suspect that throwing Weber and Groce in to the mix really dilutes the Kruger/Self numbers.
