I say the stick Heckel man to man on Jeremiah Smith.

He got beat by Makai Lemon last year - He got better
He'll get beat this year by Smith - He'll get better

A kid that played 8-man football in BFE Kansas gets to guard the #20 NFL draft pick and a soon to be top 5 draft pick.

He'll be a 1st team All-Big ten CB before he graduates Illinois at this rate.

Juice Clarke did a very good job converging Smith last year. The thing that worries me is the run defense

I have little or no expectations. Get through this game and continue to improve. I would hope that the offense shows up and moves the ball against the Buckeyes while scoring a few points. My main fear is that the OSU offense shows up and scores at will and puts 50 plus points on the board. I just think OSU can score as much as they want with the way the Illinois defense has played.

On Saturday we need to unleash the 3-3-5 defense and take a page out of the Minnesota Vikings playback and blitz 80% of the time. What do we have to lose??

And all of the other conferences have sprinkled in some conference games in these early weeks. The B1G could move a few key matchups earlier.

I’m going 49-13 tOSU. Game will be over in the third quarter.

I know some have been surly when the budget/spending and how we ran out of money topic arises, but Bert had some comments on it today in his presser. Said tOSU spent double what we did. I still feel like our admin expected teams to all spend the same and we got caught with our pants down.

It’s really going to depend on our game plan in my opinion. To have a chance in this one I really think we’re going to have to sell out against the run and dare them to beat us in the air. That usually isn’t a path to success, but if we can’t stop the run on 1st or 2nd down, we’re in big trouble anyways. Run blitz has looked fairly effective. I’d be going to that in the early downs, and moving up Bailey into the box in support. Then hope our secondary in 1 on 1 doesn’t get scorched. But if we’re betting on anyone on our defense to make 1 on 1 plays, it’s our secondary. Time to show out.

OK, now for my serious prediction:

First of all, I do think we cover this week. This just might be one of our totally unexpected and out-of-nowhere games --- but we're at such a talent disadvantage that I cannot foresee us pulling out the victory. And while improving week-to-week, our defense is just so darned suspect. I'll be thrilled with a highly competitive loss; with no turnovers, just 3-4 inconsequential penalties and no significant injuries.

Would be nice if Fox would shove some of their A games into that 2:30 slot but I know that conflicts with CBS' time. The game was better when the 2:30 slot was the prime games most weeks.
