Cancer Diagnosis

Hello Illini Fan Family,

I am creating this thread to share some unfortunate news. I have recently been diagnosed with Cancer. I have been accepted by the University of Chicago Medicine, and I have an incredible plan and team that will be taking care of me.

However, this requires me to travel from the Quad City area to Chicago for treatment. Due to this, I am asking if anyone would be willing to help out with some of the expenses that I will incur. I hate asking for any money, and I have made a good start on covering the travel and excess bills from treatment, but if any of you could help out, I would appreciate it. Just a share and general good thoughts are also appreciated.

Today is my 1st day on Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy. I have 9 weeks of this and then a reevaluation. I'm hoping that it doesn't make me feel too awful so I can continuously head home to be boys and I can drive myself so I don't have to make my wife take anymore time off than she already will be.

Wish me luck my Illini brethren.

It has been so far. Super efficient and jumped right on getting treatment started. Only been 3 weeks from diagnosis to starting treatment. They worked with me to do video visits and got everything moving extremely quickly.

I'm going to use this as a diary of sorts, I hope you all don't mind.

Update on 1st Chemo visit: Left at 4 am to travel to Chicago for a fairly long day, as we got home at about 8:30 pm. The trip went smooth as it could all day. Love the hospital staff so far. Today I received 2 chemotherapy drugs and an Immunotherapy drug, along with some other tests. Only adverse effect so far is feeling like I took extra extra strength Benedryl so I'm tired but no issues with my hunger. Slight headache at the end of the night, but overall feeling ok and feeling greatful for all of you.

Well, the treatment seems to be doing something. Been experiencing some muscle and joint pain over the last two days. Fatigue just comes out of nowhere it seems to puts me out. Otherwise, things seem normal.
