Game Thread: Illinois vs Purdue

Yes! We held the worst team in the league to a FG after a long drive!! I’ll take it

We held them to 3, I'll take it. This D will never be elite, and it helped that Purdue has been penalty prone. I hope we see some long drives by the offense that keeps our D off the field for excessive periods, with touchdowns as a result. Purdue's D is not much better than ours, and I think we can win a shootout.

Still absolutely no aggression or speed on defense. A lot of pre snap talking and tentative off the snap.

That dive took up a lot of time. We need to drive down the field and get in the end zone. Don’t want to get behind in this game.

This defense. Man. We know 9 doesn't work, but we do seem to be at our best when we have boundaries of the end to give us that extra defender.

Bailey was there first and the receiver ran into him. They even said so on the broadcast. Sort of a block/charge situation.
I disagree with the broadcasters interpretation of the rules there. 10yds off the line of scrimmage, can’t impede the route and no clear initiation by the WR. In my opinion fairly straightforward illegal contact call. That said, I’ll take it

Bielema defense, aka, Aaron Henry slow burn is back. Enjoy it because I believe it's here to stay.

Fewer possessions for both teams, better or worse. As frustrating as it is, Illinois has had success playing this way.
That was absolutely Henry's game plan. Slow the game down as much as possible, make them eat clock and try to give our offense the ball at the end with a chance to win. Given the tools he had to work with....it did work. It was frustrating, but we won a lot of games. Having Luke at the end of games didn't hurt.
