Illinois vs Baylor (Exhibition), Friday, October 23rd, 7:00pm CT, B1G+

^^ Just perusing social media, people tend to be making a way bigger deal out of exhibition results this year than in past years. For example, I remember us being excited after beating #1 Kansas in the 2023-24 exhibition, and there were tons of comments about how exhibitions were "meaningless" (even though both teams played HARD for the win that game!). Fast forward to this year, and there are a plethora of hot takes about how Tennessee is doomed, etc.

With that said, Baylor did just take down #1, exhibition or not. It will be a great measuring stick to see how we handle them without our preseason All-American!

The effects are pretty clear: the teams make more money, and the quality of play increases when the real action starts (versus going in cold).

My position is that both of those things are bad.
This is sarcasm right? Because who would want to see more high level matchups where you can see the newcomers get some minutes and then see better basketball from the jump when the games that count start?

The content inventory-fication of sports, in one anecdote.

They were right before.

I am anti-meaningless games. Get me to the ones that count.

I think there was a $34.99 option for 3 months but you have to toggle to it.

I couldn’t bring myself to pay for the 6 months, I don't have any interest in watching Minnesota men’s basket weaving in January or whatever else they’ll be broadcasting on B1G+.

No offense to the basket weaving program, but honestly unless they have Fanta or someone on the call then it’ll be a tough watch
I plan on watching the alt-cast with Andy Katz and Mike LaTulip. The alt-cast for the MSU bs UConn the other night had Katz and Rob Dauster. They were good.

If you want all the Illinois exhibition games, I recommend the $44.99 six month plan instead of the $12.99 per month plan for three months. The Seattle game is B1G+ so you’ll need October, November and December (not sure how they prorate each month). I’ve watched several of the B1G exhibition games so far and find it worth the value.

One added bonus: the six month plan is not a subscription so it doesn’t automatically renew.
There is an alumni discount rate for B1G+ for 39.99 (thru 6/39/27) if you verify alumni status thru ID me. Just need to upload your degree or transcript on ID me. This gives you all the women’s games too.

I had no idea that there would be an alt cast with MLT and Andy Katz, thanks for the intel.

As much as I want to hear some of the most respected CBB analysts call the game, there’s something about listening to the college guys try to kick it over to the girl on the floor where they’ll inevitably bungle figuring out how to turn her audio on that I’ll miss.
