Illinois 21, Oregon 10 Postgame

Can't believe we didn't field rush
Agreed, but glad we didn’t! Rushing today after a 2-score win vs. an unranked opponent would give Oregon way more of an ego than they deserve.

Do you all realize that we are going bowling after a miserable start?

Also took our 19 month old daughter to her first game and totally expected to be gone at halftime. Just like the team she surprised us by sticking it out all the way to end and had a great time! She even got on the video board during the small fries cam.

Another piece of this. She took a big crap on Oregon right at the end of the game. It was in her pants but the message was sent.

Great win Illini ....................I just finished watching the replay of the game and I have to say I am so happy with the turnaround in play by the Illini defense........it's been a solid rebuild of scheme and the players are having fun and productivity........the D dined all game long on Toasted Ravioli ......they really really did........

Clayton had a solid game and that TD catch by Dixon was awesome ....the CB deflected the ball and Dixon still caught it......he will be playing at the next level .....he really really will........

Huh?

Bret is 15-19 as the underdog at Illinois. But he's also 20-6 as the favorite. He's a had a few stinkers, but for the most part, when we're favored, we win.

Agreed. Unless you are one of the elites, you are going to have head scratching games almost every year. And occasionally the stars align and you have a special 10-2 or 11-1 year.

Heck of a win today and every one of these wins, especially at home, matter. But it was kind of eye opening today how far our program has to go from a fan standpoint. We have done a much better job getting fans in the stands. Now we have to figure out how to get them to stay past halftime.

It's a close game, beautiful fall day, playing one of the biggest programs in the country, and our student section is half empty in the 3rd quarter? What's up with that?

I am so glad you wrote this and not me.

If we want to be a contender (for anything) we have to have contender support. That's the only way we can recruit players to Champaign and they stay for all 5 years.

You correctly focused on the students in the last part. The rest of our fan base has been pretty good showing up. There is no excuse, at a university of around 35,000-40,000 undergrads, to not be able to find 8,000 of them to show up and stick it out.

As someone else has said, maybe it’s time to tie student basketball ticket availability to people who stick it out in the second half at football games. We need our most passionate fans at both.

Head coaching records as the underdog:

Ryan Day: 1-5 (.167)
Dan Lanning: 1-4 (.250)
Kirby Smart: 1-4 (.250)
Lane Kiffin: 11-32 (.255)
Steve Sarkisian: 5-12 (.294)
Bret Bielema @ IL: 15-19 (.441)

Statue.
My only remaining question is should he have his daughters with him in the statue. I love that he has them postgame regularly and it represents who he is as a person and a coach.
