Illini Volleyball 2026

Disappointing ending. That third set Illinois dominated. And I was wrong, our Illini are#24. Purdue is #16…

Exciting, but stressful 4 set win. Philpot awesome with the slide & blocks. Really impressed with freshman Madi Miles. Her game looks a little like Raina to me. She‘s hitting sharp across, down the line, and good feel for high hands.
I believe we went 4–3 in our B10 opening gauntlet of 7 ranked teams. Schedule easing up finally. Hopefully we’ll stay focused.

My wife also compared Madi to Raina - similar game.

Lost in 5. Michigan has a number at Huff. Their block frustrated us. We had 39 errors. Some miscommunication at times. Not our best showing.

we won 1st set and up 22-17 in second set before faltering to lose that 2nd and third sets to scUM......we won 4th set huge and I thought we had mojo to get the 5th set win and match........I think Madi Miles should be on the court always....we got stuck without her rotating in and it cost us......hells bells , her serving can't be any worse than the other error prone Illini.....JMHO ......

It's feast or famine when Harris is at the service line. On the season she has 40 aces and 75 service errors in 77 sets.
Virtually every D1 head coach worth their salt takes that in a heartbeat. Not to mention all of the havoc that doesn’t result in an ace but leads to a point.

I can't remember the last player that we've had who could serve like she does.

I guess you partially anticipated and answered this with your havoc comment, but I really don't understand how a net -35 points on serve is considered such a plus that any D1 coach would love it. It's almost a 2-to-1 points disadvantage (on all serves not put into play, good or bad).

D1 teams generally side out at about a 65% rate. That is, roughly 2 out of 3 serves result in a point for the receiving team. Receiving serve is a big advantage. The easier the serve the more likely the receiving team can run their offense effectively, and the higher the side out percentage. More precisely, of course coaches would prefer all serves to be in, but given the choice between a high rate of errors versus lollipop serves that result in an excellent pass which results in the setter having the option to set any one of three front row hitters - coaches will choose the option that gets the receiving team “out of system.”
