For a game taking place on actual Halloween I suppose I'll allow it, but Iowa State's obsession with not wearing their school colors completely baffles me.

I do like the emergence of color vs color matchups.

There is a decent reason for Iowa State wearing black. Back in the 1910s and 1920s, school colors were black, gold, and silver. Obviously, black and gold isn’t a good idea with Iowa, but it’s not like Iowa State is randomly wearing black and white.

The biggest reason we have had ā€œcolor vs whiteā€ jerseys/uniforms for sporting events was because many TVs were black and white when sports started on TV. Even when we had standard def TV, it was still sometimes hard to identify different colors.

Now that we have HDTV, as long as the colors sufficiently contrast there’s no need to stay with color vs white. Clearly, red vs orange or navy vs dark green isn’t a good idea. But black vs orange, navy vs red, Alabama Crimson vs Tennessee Orange, etc. shouldn’t be an issue with TV.

who can forget us in orange vs wiscy in red about 20 years ago in hoops
You can’t forget it, primarily for just how terrible it was.
