I caught some of the N.D. vs Villanova game, can someone let me know The big on Nova, was he the Italian player we were or had been recruiting? Was Luigi or Lorenzo something or other? Thanks.

We were first but looks he reclassed to 2026 transfer class. And decided to play as an 18yo pro in Milan last season.

Yes, felt the same way. Given the choice between Vaaks and Blackwell I would take Vaaks every day and twice on Sunday. Wouldn’t surprise me if we got him cheaper than what Duke paid Blackwell either.

For all the Painter walks on water talk (and I do think he’s one of the best in the business), not sure there’s a coach in the BIG who quietly does more with less than Gard. For all of Purdue’s hype, Wisconsin has had a better conference record than Purdue the last 2 seasons. Gard continually pulls guys off of the transfer portal scrap heap and turns them into 20 PPG scorers. And Wisconsin was Blackwell’s only P4 offer. Wouldn’t surprise me if Purdue falls below Wisconsin in the BIG pecking order in the post Smith Edey era.

All of that to say, I think Gard made Blackwell look better than he really is. Can’t blame the kid for getting paid though.
It wasn’t really Vaaks or Blackwell, it was more likely Blackwell vs Stojakovic. Vaaks was already in the fold when the Blackwell talk was heating up, but Andrej was still deciding.

It's obviously still super early, but it has been a pretty good start for the Big Ten compared to other conferences!

1) Everyone won their "buy games," with the conference favorite Illini looking literally historically impressive!
2) While both games ended in losses, two of our unranked, mid-tier teams looked competitive against top 25 competition. Ohio State led for much of the game vs. #25 BYU in a virtual road game (Salt Lake City), and Purdue hung with #15 Gonzaga before ultimately losing by 6.
3) The fifth highest ranked team in the Big Ten (#22 UCLA) handled the clear Big 12 favorite (#5 Arizona) from start to finish.

We'll learn a lot more in the coming days and weeks, of course ... but we avoided "black eye" moments that other conferences did not!

SEC
- While they won #1 Florida did not exactly look incredible vs. #14 Miami (FL) in a virtual home game in Tampa.
- Oklahoma suffered a humiliating loss at home as a near-30-point favorite to East Texas A&M

Big 12
- Conference favorite #5 Arizona loses convincingly to the fifth team in the preseason Big Ten pecking order.
- UCF and Utah survive in buy games by skin of their teeth, beating FGCU in OT and Long Beach State by 3, respectively.
- Kansas State goes down at home in embarrassing fashion to South Dakota State.

Early scout on Sam Houston State. Blown out by Bama.

Jacobe Coleman seemed to be their highest usage player and shot 40% from 3 on high volume.
