Pregame: Illinois at Iowa, Saturday, November 23rd, 11:00am CT, BTN

Long time no-post... but I live up in Cedar Rapids so a couple notes: can't say I'm an expert in the Iowa tailgate scene but: - there's a free bus in from the finkbine commuter lot (google it) if you're looking to park and go. There's also a train that goes from near the Coral Ridge Mall and...

Lovie Smith Named Illinois Football Coach

Odds are Beckman goes 5-7/6-6, get's fired, and possibly have Dino Babers with Thomas on very thin ice. THAT SAID... we seemed to have rescued ourselves from a pretty awful situation. soo.. horray. if you're going to blame someone blame David Reisner for hitting that field goal against Penn State

    U of I tuition freeze

i mean, the school is continuing to see record enrollment. It's hard to argue that people are not going to Champaign when more people are going to champaign every year. What's beyond a crisis at this point is that nobody is going to to Charleston or Macomb and Carbondale isn't doing too hot...

    The Illinois AD Search

oic... my department did their own graduation and only did it in the spring, so even if you hit the finish line in August or December you walked in May... (I was within a day or two of technically not graduating in August, stupid capstone, but I was walking in May either way because I was close...

congrats... grad degree or do december graduates get to shake hands with the chancellor? I never bothered with the campus-wide ceremony in the spring.

    The Illinois AD Search

I am still concerned about the lame duck status of the chancellor... in an ideal world the search committee would compliment the chancellor and help screen applicants before a decision was made (the BOT meeting should never be more than a rubber stamp) to me, actually identifying potential AD's...

    State Farm Center Renovation

For example, here's Michigan State, the school we copied. Actually it appears we did it exactly right, there's a tunnel between the two sections where opposing fans were placed, so we split them in half and put 10' between them with students on both sides. DIA nailed that one.

it's an everywhere thing, every arena has a visitor section right next to their bench.

*shrug*... seems like a tradeoff to having them behind the benches. Sounds like they were rather loud on the benches, all things considered I'd probably not have krush right behind the home bench.

the sideline Krush seats won't have the greatest viewing experience in the world but should be fine for students. it was a bit of a tradeoff, and still a massive improvement over before

I'll be curious to see where the visiting fans are placed, they should get an allotment of 50-100 seats near their bench... hopefully we made it slightly uncomfortable.

    The Illinois AD Search

I spent 6 years on campus (with a hiatus for 2 years between undergrad and grad school. My sophomore year was the national-runner up basketball team. 11 years ago at this moment I was in my 17th hour standing in line for the Illinois vs. Wake Forest basketball game (I spent the night of my...

we potentially massively screwed the pooch by firing Thomas in early November instead of early/mid October at the latest. We'll find out soon enough how much pain and suffering we set ourselves up for by doing that.

    The Illinois AD Search

I don't know if he's a viable long-term AD... but if we can't get an AD hired, uh, by Friday, we need to have him hire the football coach, it's not ideal but other schools have done this before. I'm worried we're going to be in a situation where we're adrift for 3 weeks not looking at football...

    The Illinois AD Search

George always seemed like a longshot to me, we've entered the "maybe if we pay him way too much money he'd reconsider" territory but I think it's best to consider that door closed. I dont' know if Tiley is an option or not either but would love to have him in Champaign again. It seems very...
