1.25 billion in advertising revenue...for CBS and the NCAA. Nobody has to subsidize that. They'll still show the games without the shoe companies. I agree the shoe contract money to programs would be a loss, but not the whole pot. Still generate money off of selling unbranded merchandise...
But that value is based on the exposure they get from NCAABB. Destroy that avenue and they'll put that ad money somewhere else. But the reason it's lucrative is because the NCAA has allowed that exploitation and fostered it. If schools can't wear branded gear then the shoe companies go away.
Well the fight could be a congressional hearing as the result of an FBI investigation, no? I mean it's obvious this cord needs to be severed. There is no reason a university should be getting branding contracts.
When Brian Urlacher pushes his hair cream on all of us driving down 294-S he's...
Especially when any other student could work a paid internship there, using their skills. The blocker is that the NCAA and universities worry it would contradict the exclusivity of their own branding contracts. So maybe this FBI investigation takes those branding contracts away. Then there's...
I say let the kids go out on their own time and court sponsors, do commercials etc. (this helps the money issue without totally ruining the sport) But no school can have any brand affiliation. They play in unbranded merch from whoever they want to buy it from. (this cuts out the shoe corp...
I think this a good point that is lost in this debate. The dollar value added by the player is relative to the system that has been created by the NCAA and the collegiate system in general. I watch Illinois games because I went there and a team identity has been created around that connection...
ThroughBlue on the L'Ville board is insufferable, I can't believe the audacity it takes for a Kentucky fan to go on that board and act innocent. That place has gone Henry Ford and assembly lined this process and if they haven't crossed this investigation in some way I'll be amazed.
You're right I may have painted with too broad a brush there. I feel like from watching some of the big 5* recruiting sagas there seemed to be more that weren't dirty than were, but I have no behind the scenes kind of info. What do you think the percentage is of guys that the shoe companies are...
I think here the parents are worse than you're making them out to be. I would imagine a significant percentage of CBB players come from below the poverty line. I also would imagine that most coaches don't engage in this behavior and are fairly upstanding people, like JFG (yea I said it!, I can...
