Today's games are why I get annoyed when I see comments regarding Illinois' frailty like "Championship teams don't play like this."
Sure they do. All the time. Every team has ups and downs and will lose to lesser teams.

Marquette winning today + MSU losing... Very, very nice. I feel like those, from conference championship and tournament seeding ramifications, were the most significant outcomes for us today.

I don't know who USC was playing that made their defense look that good statistically... But wow, they look completely disinterested in even touching the offense much less trying to stop them.

And, not too surprisingly, it had never been done before.
Oregon seemingly relies on transfers a lot, so Altman’s teams usually get better as season goes on. This year is no different. They lost their top 3 scorers and brought in 3 transfers to team with two talented holdovers. Ducks are finally starting to gel.

Most well-coached teams get better as the season goes on whether they rely on transfers or not.
I’m so tired of this narrative. That “so under-seeded” team then lost to Oregon State, a team that had to win its conference tournament to get in. As much as it sucked, Illinois played a stinker against a team they seemingly should have beat. Loyola wasn’t some world beater and it wasn’t the NCAA or TV’s fault the Illini’s season ended too soon.

All the better when you realized they fired a guy that is a hall of fame coach with a national championship on his resume to bring Penny in. They also had the James Wiseman incident 2 years ago that will likely end in a postseason ban (eventually, when the NCAA gets around to it) and the complete COVID vaccination mess this year. Gary Parrish mentioned on his radio show that it always seems like there is nobody actually in charge at Memphis. It's nuts.
