1/23-1/24 Games

Is NU a tourney team this year?

Not even that close. Best wins are @Virginia Tech and probably UMass-Lowell who is actually a decent team. I guess they beat Missouri as well, but who hasn't :)

Are NW fans calling for Collins head after this loss I wonder? Or are their fans more reasonable?

I don't know if the Wildcats are as bad as a couple posters might have you believe, but I too don't think they're a legit NCAA tournament team. That said, I do believe they have a chance of being a last 8 in type if the bottom of the conference doesn't step up. That's including us because I know we have the talent to beat them.

Michigan goes somewhat cold the last 5 minutes against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers gave UM multiple possessions after giving up numerous O boards during that span. UM got Duncan Robinson the ball, and his ft shooting squelched any chance the Tim Miles lead team had at a comeback. A Walton three before the shot clock expired pushed the lead to 13 with 10 seconds left after UNL went cold the last minute of the game. Kid is Yogi lite. The Wolverines were shooting around 85% before the less than five minute mark dry spell.

No, neither of them are really that invested in the team, they are both more worried about trying to get off to a good start to the new semester. Don't want those g.p.a.'s to slip

To have a shot at the tournament, especially with their extremely weak non-conference schedule, NU needed to go at least 10-8 in the Big. To do that, they needed to beat psu, Nebraska and Minnesota twice, split with OSU, and then win at home against us, Rutgers and Wisconsin. I don't see them winning any of their singles road games against Michigan, Indiana, Purdue and iowa. Even if they had gone 10-8, there would have been no guarantee as their only quality win in this scenario would have been OSU or Nebraska. Unfortunately for them, the home losses to OSU and psu pretty much killed their chances as they now need two upset road wins and still must win the other games in the must win category.

OSU and Nebraska are not quality wins. Northwestern is going to have to pull off some upsets just to make the NIT at this point.

Agreed, as I believe that the tourney would have been a long shot even if NU would have gone 10-8 under my scenario. I really don't think there is any chance that they can get 10 wins at this point with the two home losses to OSU and psu.

Yeah, they needed 11 or 12 in the conference. The schedule really worked against them. 7 chances for top 50 RPI wins in the league and 5 of those games are on the road. Thursday against MSU is a must win to keep any hope alive.

I agree Thursday's game against MSU is a must win to keep any hope alive. For those that are interested here is a link to the Northwestern message board:

And of course the fans are expecting a win against the Illini.

Iowa handling Purdue right now.
56-41 with 13:00 to go

Didn't want to start a new thread for these two teams, even though it's not a 1/23 game
