11/17 Games

#1
Huge game in the Gavitt Games series tonight:

Rutgers @ DePaul

:D

J/K but there's also a bunch of afternoon games and some good match-ups later on.

Providence @ Ohio St on BTN
Seton Hall @ Iowa (BTN)
Marquette @ Michigan (ESPN2)

Xavier vs. Mizzou is another game to keep an eye on. Mizzou played only one game this season, in which they destroyed Alabama A&M 99-44. Sure, Alabama A&M is one of the worst teams in the country, but I feel like last year's Mizzou team would have played closer to their level. We'll find out today if they've actually improved.

Mizzou also only beat their HC's previous D2 school -- picked NINTH in its conference preseason poll this year -- by seven, with the game in doubt in the final minute or so. This will be a really good test for them.

WMU is hanging in there down 5 with 6:30 to go.

Western Michigan is decent, but they did get destroyed by Oakland just a couple of days ago. Villanova will be fine but if we had the same score against WMU, you know the fire Groce crowd would be active on the boards.

Agreed. It does not take much to sway the faithful to the negative these days but it is expected with the current state of things.

If Mizzou stays the course with Kim Anderson I think they'll be good sooner rather than later. I mean the guy is everything you want in a resume. Went to the school, played in the NBA, assistant coach at the school, successful college coach in-state with around a 75% winning record and a championship. (It'd be like if Roger Powell became an assistant at Illinois and then won a D-II championship at Lewis University and then came to coach Illinois.)

Anyway, I'm not looking forward to their resurgence over the next few years... or even this year :-/

It won't be this year. You can't lose Wes Clark, Jonathan Williams III, Torren Jones, tremaine Isabel, Namon Wright, D'Angelo Allen, Jakeenan Grant, and Monique Gill Ceasar in a two year period, and play with a bunch of freshmen in a p5 conference unless you recruit at the elitist of levels which the Tigers have not. It might take a couple years at least to be the Mizzo program we are used to seeing. They'd be pretty good this year if the aforementioned players were still in Columbia.

Wow. Mizzou fouls with a second to go in a tie game off an in bounds play. Xavier hits a free throw and holds on.

Are there even a thousand people at the DePaul game? It was a while ago but I can remember when the Blue Demons were the hottest ticket in town.

Iowa has a better recent history than we do and a good opponent in Seton Hall, but their attendance looks like our attendance. Good game btw. 2 point diff
