Let's hope we can beat Wake and NU - usually freshman heavy teams like ours struggle away from home -- if not, we could be looking at potential losses that would be much worse for our tourney hopes than we may have thought entering the season.

Almost turning into must wins.

Thought I'd check-in on 3 of our old ILLINI friends:

* John Groce off to a 2-0 start at Akron. They beat UT-Martin by ~20 points
* J. Tilmon averaging 7 pts in 13/mpg for a 2-1 Mizzou squad
* K. Nunn averaging 28 ppg for 2-1 Oakland

Man, that Wake Forest game gets scarier to me with every game they lose. I worry about how we'll look on the road with so many freshmen and that could end up being a bad loss. But from an optimist point of view, the Wake, NW, and Maryland games all seem winnable now. They should give us a pretty solid idea of where this team is at.

Chris Beard has the potential to be a very good coach at the high-major level. I think Texas Tech has themselves a good one.

I was among those that wanted Groce fired after the 2016 season, and Chris Beard was one of those dark horse guys that I thought we should consider if indeed we fired Groce. Obviously I'm very happy with how things materialized, and hiring Beard after only one D1 season under his belt wouldn't have sat well with many here (nor would his Bobby Knight lineage).

Groce' team won by 20ish and we only managed a 3pt margin!?!?!

I thought Tilmon scored a ton of points in their first game? Maybe I'm confusing that with a preseason game, Iowa St maybe?

I'm happy for Nunn. I always loved his game.

I think Tilmon is averaging like a foul a minute, which is absurd. That bodes well for us, as we finally have a team that takes it to the basket and draws fouls.

He will be pumped up for our game, so hopefully we can use that aggression against him to keep him out of the game.

Duke beat Southern by only 17 and we waxed them by 47. This time of year, these things happen.

I heard the Cats have an NCAA record. They are just 9-10 as a ranked team playing an unranked opponent. That's the lowest winning %.

Tilmon was quite good against Ia. State, something like 17 and 10, and sucked in the Utah and the other game they played.
