The B1G could go 12-2. Duke is a hot mess right now and Rutgers could beat Miami. 10-4 is probably about right, but always some surprises so would not be surprised with 9-5.

I haven’t seen much in the way of BIG teams yet this year other than Wisky, MSU, Purdue and, of course, Illinois. So I’m interested in seeing the other likely contenders in the BIG — Michigan. OSU and Indiana. All 3 have good barometer games. I wish Maryland had a better opponent. I’ll try to watch Penn St too since we play them early.

The Pitt NW game score at the end will be 50 points or less. Watching the game is like watching paint dry.

Minnesota had open shots and missed most of them badly, from what I could tell.

My HS arena had a lot more fans than this game. Are the NU students on break? There's not more than 10 students sitting in the student bleacher section behind the basket to the right on camera. Why would any decent recruit choose to go there?

Looking at NU's school calendar, it appears that classes were back in session today but today also begins their final week of regular classes before final examinations begin next week.

I don't know the current policy. It used to be that a student ID got you into any game for free, and they still couldn't get anyone into the stands.

Rival watch....Mizzou @ Wichita St will be interesting tonight. It's Mizzou's first real opponent, and the Tigers might be a tournament team this year but it's obviously too early to tell.

I haven't watched a game yet, but the stats say they are a fun team to watch. Gates has been going 9-10 deep, they play fast, and right now have one of the best assist rates in the country.

Mizzou and Illinois are ranked 5th and 6th in tempo among high major teams. So even if Mizzou is bad, Bragging Rights should at least be fun to watch.

That Northwestern game is a good reminder that the advanced rankings are still changing quite a bit this early in the season. On torvik, NW went from 66 to 93.
Since I live in the Chicagoland area, I went to that game. Pitt hit over 60% of their 3-point attempts and Northwestern's shooting was terrible. Pitt will never shoot 3-pointers that good for the rest of the season.

Once the B1G games start, I bet the opposing fans will outnumber the Northwestern fans in most games.

Since you were at the game live, I'm very confident that I saw you during the 3 minutes that I watched the game on TV. It appeared that they could have interviewed each member of the crowd for 2 minutes a piece and have finished up by halftime.

Guessing it was every bit as empty as it looked on TV?

Yes, you could sit in almost any place you wanted. It looks like the Northwestern fans have started to abandon the team and Collins. This will probably be Collins's last year unless he wins quite a few B1G games. Northwestern's first B1G game is at MSU.

I can't see Chris Collins lasting pass this season with another sub .500 record 26-71 in Big Ten last 5 seasons
And yet, he may be the most successful coach in their history (at least the last 50 years) based on winning percentage and having the only NCAA appearance in their history.

Collins 139-152
Carmody 192-210
O'Neill 30-56
Byrdsong 34-78
Foster 54-141
Falk 77-144
Winter 42-89

Extremely tough to win at NU.

I assumed he was holding out slight hope for the Duke job had Coach K retired a few years ago. Not sure why he's still even at NW with them going nowhere fast.

Based on their history, facilities, and fan base, I'm not sure NU could do any better.

I honestly think Collins should have taken a mid-major gig and shown what he was capable of rather than having the purple albatross around his neck.

Oh I agree - Roy Williams isn't walking through that door. Best case scenario they get a solid mid-major coach I would think - but as the OP said it'd be hard to justify keeping him too much longer assuming they have another awful year.
