11/29 Polls - Illinois unranked in AP Poll

#2
Dropping 11+ spots after 1 loss and 2 wins shows how little respect nationally Illinois gets. Do we deserve to be ranked, I don't know, yet. Does it matter right now? No, but a little respect would be nice.

It is apparent nobody has paid attention to what is going on with injuries and BS suspensions outside of our little square in central Illinois.

Yes, we looked bleak all night against, grtvu, or whoever it was...WITHOUT AC, Trent, and Jake...yet Michigan beats a 1-5 Tarleton State team by getting hot in the last minute and loses to an unranked team..who is now ranked, but still behind scUM.

Whatever, let's play the season with our projected starters, make the dance and see what happens.

Have you watched us play? We are not a top 25 basketball team right now.

This is a bad attitude to have. As someone NOT from East Central Illinois and NOT an alum, I can assure you people from other areas of the state follow the Illini with just as much heart. It’s a damaging attitude for our own fans to treat us as a local/regional university.

We aren’t the University of CENTRAL Illinois. Plenty of people all across the nation, especially instate, have given us our due over the past three seasons. We had an abysmal few games, and while I was hoping we might hang in there to keep the steak alive, it’s not that harsh to kick us out … and we are still 26th. If we win two this week, like a top 25 team would even with our injuries, we’ll be ranked immediately again!

By the way, for those fans who haven’t appreciated the turnaround Underwood and Co. have orchestrated … this is the first time in 637 days Illinois has not been ranked. That’s some mid-2000s level consistency. Sucks we fell out and we have some issues to address, but our massive fall from grace still has us as the #26 team in the nation with two chances (at home!) to right the ship and prove we belong.

With all due respect, we got punked by a team that's not even highly regarded, beat a K-State team picked near the bottom of the Big 12, and then had to fight to beat a team that most people haven't even heard of. You are drinking some serious orange Kool-Aid if you think we are one of the best 25 teams in the country right now.

The poll is a snapshot at this particular time. Illinois at this point is not a top 25 team. The losses with people out will be taken into consideration if need be by the tournament committee. As to no respect, Illinois is the top vote getter outside of the top 25, so not like they are being written off. And only two teams in the top 25 have 2 losses, Villanova that lost to UCLA and Purdue, and Michigan that lost to Seton Hall and Arizona. All four of those losses are “better” losses than the Illini’s losses.

Again, no one is writing the Illini off for the season. At this time voters did not think the team’s resume at this point made them a top 25 team. I can’t argue with that. And the whole nobody likes us, we get no respect thing is pretty old.

Only poll that matters is the final poll of season. Everything else is just window dressing. And I agree with a previous poster that mentioned snapshot in time. At this time, injuries or not, we are NOT one of the best 25 in the country. Will we get there? Highly likely. Until then, take it one game at a time. Continuous improvement, getting healthy and finding rotations that work should be our main concerns.

Polls don't mean too much this early. How else do you explain 5-2 Villanova ahead of 7-0 Baylor? And anyone notice that Gonzaga scored 64 points and won by 9 over 1-6 Tarleton State? It was 25-26 at the half.
