12/8 Games

Trends! Iowa up 11 against the Cyclones with 8 left in the 1st half. The Hawkeyes are playing up to their potential thus far.

Just got done watching the Johnies play. Could Ponds and Lovett(DNP) be any similar. That'll be a fun backcourt to watch during their careers.

Shouldn't Middle Tn St. lose to Vanderbilt since the Dores just beat the Tn. St. Tigers pretty handily who handed the Blue Raiders their only L of the season? Nope, MTSU crushed Vandy tonight.

Its also true. I happen to have spoken to Kermit not too long ago.

Not with a bag full of $10 million, I would imagine.

Power Five head coaching jobs are life-changing opportunities, and college basketball coaches are extremely hard-working, ambitious people who are often happy, but never "cozy".

It is also a business where you have to feign a level of dedication to your employer that would be unusual in other contexts.

Kermit Davis would take the Illinois job if offered, period, end of story. That he managed to convince you otherwise speaks to a recruiting ability that may be of some use to us.

I cant tell you that he wouldnt take a power 5 job if offered. I mean he's only making about 500k a year. But hes 57 years old and has been at MTSU 15 years. Im also not sure a p5 offer is going to come. Murfreesboro is a very nice place to live as well. He has full support of his administration and people there love him. Last I heard they were also in the process of updating their arena as well. So I used the word "cozy", right or wrong, you get the idea.

Right, it probably isn't. And I'm sure he's happy there.

I was just reacting to your "he's not going anywhere" comment, which is something you hear a lot.

Only in college coaching do Average Joe fans wed themselves to the idea that the best-paying, highest-profile opportunities are things to be avoided for some reason. I'm not accusing you of believing that, it's just something out there that I've never understood, especially when it is proven spectacularly wrong in 99 of 100 cases.

Exactly. And I definitely wasn't saying that.

What I do expect though, is a pay raise. I think he's outperforming his pay in recent years. I think he's only middle of the pack in CUSA in terms of salary.

I find myself in Boise a few times per year and this conversation reminds me of people's opinions of Chris Peterson there. If you were to have talked to anyone in that town, Chris Peterson would NEVER have left Boise St. One person went so far as to tell me that the hospital in Boise saved Peterson's kid's life and as a result he had stated that he would never leave. Now I don't think all these people are lying, I am sure Chris Peterson told everyone he wasn't sleeping with that he would never leave Boise State.

Chris Peterson is going to the Playoffs with Washington right now.

Right, that and Brad Stevens are probably the two most famous examples of coaches who were NEVER going to leave leaving as soon as they got offered great jobs elsewhere.

It's even better when they tell you an assistant doesn't really want to be a head coach.

For a guy named Kermit, I'm sure it isn't easy wanting more green.

I've hit my dad joke quote for the day. Ill show myself out.
