Every time I watch Minnesota I can't help but appreciate Johnson. Guy is all heart and effort.

Plays too much hero ball. Kind of like curbelo in that regard.

Ivey went 1-8 from the field. Curbelo hasn't taken 8 shots in a game since the Maryland game.

Hero ball generally has to do with taking low percentage shots and not passing. This would be the first I have heard of a pass-first point guard playing hero ball because he dribbles too much when he is looking to pass.

I know Deron Williams wasn't a pass first guard, but would be great if BU could bring him in to work with Belo this summer. I think it would help Belo greatly.

Deron was absolutely a pass first guard. That's why he was overshadowed by Bracey Wright in high school and Dee Brown for most of his career at Illinois
Deron was the third best player in the team as Bracey Wright and Bam Harmon were the primary scorers on the team. I saw many of their games and they were sweet to watch as Deron was a pass first PG.

Interesting that he was the third best player because two players out scored him. Never saw the team but doubt it.

Bracey was supposedly the bigger get from his school as DWill definitely was overshadowed. And DWill WAS absolutely a pass first PG who could also score which is what made him and the team so great.

According to others who watched them and they voted Deron the District MVP. He was clearly not the 3rd best player on the team based on that vote.

Don’t get me wrong I love Curbelo’s game as a whole but let’s no pretend he hasn’t tried to do too much in certain stretches of games. At the end of the day a turnover is the same as a missed shot but worse since you don’t give your team a chance to get the rebound

fair enough on the other point about the definition of hero ball itself. At least for me I just define it as a guy trying to do too much.

I saw him play. A lot. He was a 5 star player but Bracey and Bam got the headlines. When I say third best, its like A1, A2 and A3.

Did the other two players get to the NBA?
That is not important as we are talking about a high school team and the NBA. Both Harmon and Wright did not have the tools to Be successful in the NBA but Deron did. It didn’t mean that Harmon and Wright were extremely better or worse. Going by what I saw and what Deron did not make those players better. Bracey was a talent but his game did not warrant an NBA career. Sone on here are comparing apples and oranges. Deron was talented but his role in HS was to make those around him better while sacrificing his numbers.

While he may try to do "too much", I'd take that 10 outta 10 times over standing around the perimeter doing nothing.
