Andy Katz loves us even more.......check out the Power 36.

I agree with him that if we are healthy and playing to potential, we are a really, really good team. We just haven't exactly done that a whole lot this year and are running out of time to find some consistency. Don't get me wrong, though; I am loving this season and loving this Illini Basketball Renaissance courtesy of Brad Underwood and Josh Whitman.

I'm not sure I really agree with that. Especially with this soft Wisconsin team jumping us. I think if we played them 10 times we'd beat them 9 times. Also, keeping Rutgers out of the top 25 is borderline criminal. I think that's the fundamental problem here; Rutgers is still being underestimated nationally. That makes our loss look worse.

I didn't look at the full rankings, but I definitely agree Rutgers not being included is ridiculous. What more do they have to do, lol?

Wisconsin is 13-4 in Q1/Q2 games, really impressive, we are only 10-7 in those games. They have a Q3 loss, we do not, which brings us closer, but it's hard to deny how good their resume looks overall.

I get that. Wisconsin has a really strong resume. I still think we would beat them 90% of the time. I absolutely do not think they are a better team than us.

This is absolutely true, we match up very well, but maybe they wouldn't ever lose to Purdue h2h. So it's kind of a circle of domination where each teams has anothers number.

how the hell is Iowa ranked and MSU/rutgers not? MSU being unranked makes sense at least

Maybe it should be, but rankings are not based on how good a team is that week or the last 2 weeks. It affects the weekly adjustments to rankings, but it’s still a measure of the season. As are the tourney bids.

somehow rutgers still got mildly punished for not beating purdue on the road. I guess you can say it wasn't too bad since they still got votes and are technically 27th.

Not sure I get the Wisc love. But us winning, on the road, on sat in my mind neutralizes the loss against a white hot Rutgers. It should have been a wash, but whatever. Just keep winning. Have another shot this week against ranked OSU.

Rutgers has had several Q2 and Q3 losses (and 1 Q4) which buried them earlier in the year but are now 6-3 in Q1 games. Now that they have clawed their way up into the others getting votes category they have an excellent chance to be ranked next week if they can take down scUM in Ann Arbor and Wisconsin at the RAC. I like their chances in both contests.

Iowa # 25 ? MSU just got a whiteboard gift from the AP poll. MSU should be unranked, but I think they will play with fire tomorrow. Iowa fans don't constantly cheer. They nervously sit on their hands half of the game. Carver Hawkeye Arena is not a relatively scary place to play. The seats rise so gradually and the roof is so relatively flat, the acoustics don't have a chance compared with Mackey Arena.

I expected we would be #15, but Iowa in the list and Rutgers not is crazy.

The polls are so weird. There is no logic behind giving Rutgers an excessive amount of credit for going 1-1 this week (with the one win being against us at home) but then dropping us that much for going 1-1 and responding to the Rutgers loss with a win on the road vs. #19 Michigan State. Oh well! Two wins this week, and we might be knocking on the door of the top 10 with some help from other upsets. By the way, there are some huge games this weekend RE: our rooting interests:

#4 Purdue at Michigan State - I would love to see Walker continue his meteoric rise and knock off Purdue. I think PU is the "best team in the conference," but they are prone laying an egg (even when they eek out the victory, like vs. Maryland). Here's to hoping MSU can do us a favor.

#13 Wisconsin at Rutgers - If RU can not be knocked down too much after the loss at Purdue, I think they take this one. It would be great for (1) UW to get another loss and be knocked out of first place in the loss column and (2) RU to sneak into the top 75 of the NET Rankings and become another Quad 2 win for us at home and a Quad 1 loss for us in Jersey. They're #80 right now.
