I see two trees ahead of us that could use some chopping.

It was really close: OSU - 1,370 pts; UI - 1,356 pts. Some voters definitely wanted to move us up, but just enough wanted to keep OSU in place for another week.

Nothing to worry about. Win out and Illinois can't be any lower than #3. They'd probably be #1 if they win their next five games.
There's no way we get to #1 by the end of the regular season. Unless Gonzaga and Baylor collapse everyone is way too in love with them.

I'm getting increasingly irritated with Baylor. They've now played 7 conference games fewer than Kansas, and only have 3 more currently scheduled.
It's ridiculous to reward teams for not losing games that they never play. We know they're good-to-great, but even great teams lose games they have no busy dropping (e.g. the '05 team and that OSU glitch). Same with Michigan. They're clearly very very good, but Nebraska is cramming 6 more games in the same time period that Michigan has 5 scheduled and have already played one more conference matchup in spite of being shut down for longer.

Not sure about that. Illinois would play at Michigan State, at #21 Wiscy, at #3 Michigan, at #4 Ohio State. That would, by far, give Illinois the best resume in college basketball.

definitely won’t drop them-nor should it- but I think Baylor will lose one of its last two games vs WVU or at Kansas.

Agreed - if we win out against that schedule, that's a #1 team sheet. Baylor and Gonzaga could have helped themselves by rescheduling their COVID cancellation, in which case one of them would no longer be sporting a perfect record.

Here's what we control. The games we play. We win We are a 1 seed and probably #3 overall. We don't control other teams, rankings, etc. Great fodder for sure but let's just win. Everything else will sort itself out.

I don't disagree that we deserve to be considered, but two undefeated teams, one of which beat us on a neutral court, aren't going to drop to a 5 loss team without losing.
At some point, the cancellations need to be factored in. I totally agree - the guys only control what happens on their court. Win out and put the pressure on the selection committee to reward a full body of work on the court, not games that never occurred.

Last season there were 4 teams that went into the final 4 days of the season with a chance to tie or win the BIG Ten. MSU, Maryland and Wisconsin ended up with a share each. Illinois loss at tOSU cost us a share.
