For those who think big ten is predictable or that penn state loss was a disaster- penn state currently taking maryland to the wood shed. Up 43-20 early second half. Two takeaways- penn state playing very very well right now. 2- no result is a given. any given night

I figured Penn State would get hot eventually, but they’re playing at a whole different level. Man I wish we played them earlier in the season. We were the hot team but they’ve stolen our thunder :(

Was expecting it to be close, but not this beat down by PennieStatie!

So the upset trend continues...

Penn State with a big win tonight. They are a tough ... team.

Penn State just beat Maryland at Penn State. They're peaking at a pretty good time.

Edit: In case anyone missed that.

Michael Finke had 38 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, and shot 70% from the field tonight.
Against the mighty Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico. Happy he's playing well for GCU, but I think I'd rather be on a 10-win Illini team playing in the B1G and upsetting top 25 teams than playing on a 17-10 GCU team that beats the brakes off Eastern NM, California Baptist, etc, but loses to teams like UMKC and San Diego. Then again, he's getting playing time and getting to play with his brother, maybe that's a lot more important to him at this point.

Former Fighting Illini M Finke enjoying his time at Grand Canyon.. 36 and 38 points in two of the last five games. Congrats!!

Don't care what anyone says, he would've helped this team. No, he wasn't a B1G caliber player 100% of the time, but his last five games are impressive, at any level: 36, 24, 8, 38, 26. His rebounding numbers have been good too: 9, 6, 4, 8, 10.

No they wouldn't translate 1:1 to the B1G, but he could easily find 15 minutes here.

Yeah but who are you taking those minutes from? Certainly not a freshman. I'd rather have Kipset playing D than Finke, and would rather have AJ shooting and even rebounding, lately.

Hot hand. Honestly, 7/10 games I think Finke provides more than Kipper (at least this year). Finke instead of ADLR most nights too at the 5 behind Giorgi, though I would worry if Finke would've stunted Giorgi's emergence. Seeing as our last scholly this year went to Empty Chair, I dont think Finke would've been a negative on this team. Leron Black he is not, but you can't tell me ADLR is given us more than Finke would've, especially since Finke would've contributed immediately.

Optimistically, we could’ve won a couple more games with Finke. Which matters more, two more wins this year or a year of experience for the freshman? Frankly, Finkes abilities on defense don’t work well in this system and I’m not sure he helps us overall. I’d be fine if he was on the roster and we didn’t bring in Higgs because that doesn’t look like it will ever pay any dividends, but it was his choice to leave and he’s having a great experience where he’s at so good on him.
