St John's had an 11 game losing streak going into this one.....crazy

Are they eyeing our best-last-place-team mantle?

We're not in last. Rutgers us 2-9, plus we beat them.

Keatts revenge v ND is ok, but no Bonzo Colson makes ND a shadow of what they were.

Good day in college hoops when Duke loses in the upset of the tear to 10-13 St Johns and Kansas is right behind losing at home to the Cowboys who I think were 3-6 in the Big 12!

Wyking Jones was a horrendous hire for Cal. That was the sort of hire that says "we don't care about basketball".

I still think the Ewing hire at GTown was a bad one. I have no doubt that Big John influenced that hiring, and i know a few GTown colleagues wish that they went another route.

I'm certainly not down on Underwood, but man......it stings a bit to see guys like Hopkins and Keatts step into situations that were arguably worse than ours and have this kind of success, while we are so bad. Holtmann has the benefit of inheriting seniors like KBD and Tate, and Cuonzo has the benefit of two stud seniors in Robertson and Barnett.

I'd argue Cuonzo was more recruiting based than anything else (Robertson was a fifth year transfer plus Tilmon and Jontay Porter), but I wonder how much the strength of the other coaches in the Big Ten makes it more difficult to succeed than say Hopkins at Washington. The only conference that can match the quality of coaches in the Big Ten is the ACC imo.

Didn't Keatts inherit a really good roster?

I know it's of little comfort, but we are literally six possessions from being a 5 loss team and in the top half of the B1G. Yes, it is a result of our execution and the results may be deserved overall, but we are not that far off.:illinois:

Very enjoyable last ten minutes of regulation and OT as Michigan knocks off Minnesota by three. By enjoyable I mean entertaining.

Michigan knocks off Minnesota in OT, leaving the Gophers stuck on 3 wins. This is good for the Illini as we need Minny, Wisconsin and Iowa to keep losing in order to have a better shot of climbing out of the bottom 4 in the league and thereby avoiding the Wednesday BTT games.

If not for the bonehead turnover at the end of regulation against Maryland and Nebraska's prayer 3 going in, we're 4-6 in the Big Ten with a not too difficult schedule remaining. Give us the Iowa and NW games as well (both of which we had a great chance to win and blew it at the end) and we're 6-4. I think next years team, with more experience, would win all those games.

I'm sure it won't last, but Rutgers hanging around with Purdue. Down 5 with 10 minutes to go. Weren't we up like 43 at that point? (I know this observation means nothing).

Even more craziness today...Rutgers making it interesting against Purdue. 1 point game.

Tilmon looking good at Mizzou. He would have made a difference. Not a one and done however.

My view as well. Can't deny that we lost those games, but we are also very close to being proud. I'm much happier than prior years, since I see a future

Pffft. It absolutely means we're 40 points better than Purdue. 38 at least.

Indy giving Michigan State a game- Indy is shooting 17% from the field and only down by 3

Heck, I'd argue that Bruce Weber's downfall in some regard was chasing the 5* kids rather than going out and finding more kids like Jamar Smith. He seems to be turning it around at K-State with kids like Dean Wade and Barry Brown.

Bruce Weber has missed the tournament 2 of the last 3 years, and he barely made it the third year via play-in game. He has never won a real NCAA tournament game in his entire tenure at K-State, his career has been one big meh... a far cry from his predecessor at K-State. I would not say that he is turning it around. His mediocre tenure at K-State has not been because of chasing 5* kids either, he is just a mediocre overall coach. If I had to bet, the rest of his career at KSU will be more of the same.

Even this year, they have now lost 2 straight (admittedly to good teams) and just got totally blown out today, with their schedule not getting much easier. At 16-7 and 5-5, they can still make the tournament (although not guaranteed) but he is hardly making a turnaround.

Personally, I think "fitting the system" is way overrated. Eventually, it is about talent, talent fits a lot of systems. Same is true for BU IMO, if he gets the talent via recruiting, he will succeed, if not, people will find fault at not being able to find kids who fit his system. JMO.

Agreed. It does make some difference whether or not players "fit the system," but in the end you need talent to win. Unless your coach is some kind of wizard like Bo Ryan.
