2016-17 Illini Golf

Hard to imagine Florida will catch Purdue given how difficult 18 is playing (475 yrd par 4).

Big loss for Florida if they don't advance. Ranked 5th overall, would have been expected to make the match play portion.

"Tiebreaker for the 5th qualifying spot is a sudden-death playoff between the 2 teams starting in 2 groups of 5 players at hole No. 18. Both teams will play sudden death stroke play 5-count-4 until a winner is determined."

This was on golfstat for the NW playoff.

What a finish !
I had not totally given up, but I knew the odds were long, so I went out to play here in the Chicago area. It is not only windy in w. Lafayette, it is pretty crazy windy here too. About 30-40 mph. And it ate me up. Just killed me. But the Illini fight through to make it 10 years in a row. That is VERY impressive. Well done, men.

Great to see programs like golf, tennis, and to some extent wrestling succeed. Makes me wonder about the relative impact of the non-big-two sports on alumni support and a general culture of pride at a University.

I'm guessing they may be under-valued some. But, I'd suggest that a University's "pride profile" in sports could be gauged roughly based on this breakdown.

1.) 45% men's football
2.) 35% men's basketball
3.) 20% everything else

Sound about right?

I will be at the golf tournament on Monday and Tuesday carrying a score standard and I will pay attention to the amount of orange in the crowd. I will probably go Saturday and proudly wear my orange Illini T-Shirt. Rich Harvest Farms is about an hour from Chicago so this is a great opportunity for the Chicago Illini to support the golf team. Rich Harvest Farm is about 2.5 hours from Champaign.

I was actually contemplating trying to get out there to go, but it's tough to do for an entire week. And I've always been a terrible jinx to Illini teams when I travel to watch them, so maybe it's for the best to stay home and watch them on TV (hopefully).

Lipparelli is turning pro after the NCAAs. Too bad, next year was shaping up to be a really good one, but at least we do have a couple options to replace him. The team will still be good but hate to see an experienced guy leave with 2 years left.

Thanks for the update. I was more concerned with Hardy or Meyer turning professional. Good luck to him!

Is there a schedule of tee times for this weekend? I looked on Illinois app and didn't see anything.

I don't see anything either. I know that you can track the golf live on golfstat.com. But they don't have the men's event posted yet either. Probably because the women aren't done yet and the men's coaches haven't had to post their order within their block of tee times. But I am speculating a little bit here, so don't take this as gospel
