All this panic and we have a chance to finish second?

Even in golf we are a Doom and gloom bunch at times :D

Let's go Illini

So we'll be facing Oregon or USC in quarters, if I recall correctly they're the team's that knocked us out the last two years. Time for some revenge.

Just looked up the stats from 2 years ago; Hoey and Crocker were the 1 and 2 guys on that USC team. Hoey beat Danielson 2&1, while Thomas Detry picked up our only win against Crocker. Revenge would be sweet!

5 A.M. tee time on the West Coast, ouch. Guess I'll be up early just to catch the back nine.

It will be tough, but doable. I think we can get it 3-2 on the strength of our back players.

All 5 scores count or is the fifth a tiebreaker?

FYI, I know I could probably look all this stuff up, I've asked several newbie type questions over the course of the past few days, but y'all seem pretty cool with it. And you're quick with the answers. Thanks!

It's 5 head to head matches. Just like a 5 game NBA/MLB/NHL playoff series, you have to win 3 to advance.

And another clarification (this got me the first time I watched), in match play it's hole-by-hole rather than number of strokes. So, it doesn't matter if you eagle and your opponent double bogeys or if you birdie and they par--either way you gain 1 hole. Lots of short puts are conceded in match play.

Correct. And once you're ahead by more holes than you have left to play, the match is over. So the scores are listed such as "Player A won 4&3", meaning he was ahead by 4 holes with only 3 left to play. And if you're ahead by exactly the number of holes left, it's called being "dormie". That means your opponent has to win the next hole or the match is over. Tie matches are listed as "all square" or A/S.

Just to show how hard it will be to predict a winner, the pairings and their 4 day stroke totals are:
Lipparelli 287, Crocker 300
Tadiotto 299, Levitt 307
Hardy 293 , Hoey 284
Feagles 299 , Jin 292
Meyer 284 , Sun 288

Day to day volatility exceeds the stroke differential between the players, which is only 1 or 2 strokes per match. Probably 60/40 Illini if I'm the bookmaker.

Looks like they have their work cut out for them. Finish Strong!

We need Eduardo and Nick to hang in there, then probably Gio has to make the small comeback. Thankfully he is past 17. That hole has been a killer for him.

Feagles is back to 2 down through 11. Tadiotto back up 1, through 13.
