[QUOTE="champaignchris, post: 1252395, member: 26283"] It's a weird paradox trading Sale in that the combination of his talent, health and contract make him so valuable that the only teams that have enough talent to trade for him are already good enough to be challenging for a championship by virtue of that talent, and those teams are wary about giving up pieces that would be Major League contributors during the three years remaining on Sale's contract. In order for the Sale bidders to improve their playoff chances, they almost have to, by necessity, give the Sox less than full value for Sale. Otherwise, they're just treading water. I think the rumored deal of Robles, Giolito plus one more prospect would be a disappointing return for Sale. The Phillies got two prospects of that value plus three starting pitchers and a couple more pieces for Hamels. (Granted, they also sent a relief pitcher roughly equivalent to Zach Putnam.) The Royals got the starting center fielder and second baseman for two World Series teams plus Jake Odorizzi, who was part of the trade that got them Wade Davis and Good James Shield for Zack Greinke. (Granted, they also gave up a middle infielder who is probably mid way in value between Lawrie and Saladino.) Point is, there's pretty much no reason for Hahn to pull the trigger now if the reported return is what it is. He should pivot to discarding Lawrie, Frazier, Robertson, Cabrera, and anything else of value signed for fewer than three years while they're still under contract, and then try again with Sale and Quintana at the Deadline.
