2017 Basketball Transfer Thread

Alstork has some more visits left , I wouldn't think he would commit . Seems he's enjoying being in spotlight atm. Agua , is on his first visit, I wouldn't see him commit either. Not saying I wouldn't like to see both commit asap, I still think we are waiting for a bit. Believe Alstork said something like the 20th. Just happy to see some activity. This might make some movement on other fronts.:thumb:

The fact that GTown got a commit from Trey Dickerson, who was visiting GTown at the same time as Alstork, bodes well for us.

Can someone remind me why people are excited about Agau, besides the fact that we need bodies down low? Career stats of 3 pts, 3 rebs, and .5 blocks per game leave much to be desired...

He was a top 75 player coming out of high school. His stats do leave much to be desired, but like others mentioned he'd immediately be our best post defender and 2nd best rebounder. He's big and pretty athletic.

Also, I happened to find a GTown message board with a thread about Agau's decision to transfer and the fans were disappointed and confused. Almost all of them expected a big year from him next season, especially with Ewing now as coach, and a few even expressed a desire for "another Agau, well, TWO now..." So he sounds like a guy who might be better than his stats have shown, who is expected to keep developing, and who the fans have apparently appreciated. Also, defense is hard to measure from stats, and it sounds like defense is an area where he contributes.

I don't know if I would use Illini Basketball and Battery as a good thing for a while. But hope we can get both!

Hopefully we're way beyond what you're talking about and can think positive things for a change.

Yeah, no reason to be negative. Those two could put a charge into the crowd, and really provide a spark. Hopefully they could form a good connection with our other players, and light up SFC. Been a while since we had a kid from the DC area, but current events might bode well for us.

Akoy Agau Georgetown Grad transfer visiting Illinois on the 11th. Agau started his career at Louisville where he played sparingly for two years. He then transferred out of the Cardinals program and committed to Georgetown. In his lone season with the Hoyas, Agau averaged 15 minutes, 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. His production was solid for the little time he played. 6'8" and 235 lbs. He will be here with Mark Alstock as well.

It does raise the question of what do you have to do to get suspended at Louisville!

The inconsistency in his numbers is what gives hope that he becomes a valuable contributor, he's a double digit rebound guy waiting to happen when he gets minutes and stays on the floor and he has decent touch. I would imagine like a lot of young players consistency game in and game out is an issue, but he's exactly the skills set we need on this team.

He's got to be BU's number one priority right now, even though Alstork is a better overall player, we have others with his skill set - we don't have anyone with Agau's skill set. Black is a good rebounder, but a different type of player and not as big.

Akoy Agau

I have a close friend who is one of Georgetown's biggest alumni boosters-sits at center court at every game and never misses one. HUGE college basketball fan. Good friend to both current and past head coaches. Here's what he had to say about Akoy Agau this morning:

"Akoy is a great kid – he plays with enthusiasm , especially on the boards. But, his leg injury has really restricted his effectiveness as an offensive player. He believes that he is not getting enough minutes and I believe has an inflated idea of his long term potential – that is, he thinks two years at a new place will show his potential more as an NBA player."

I hope Akoy is right & that place is Illinois. Gtown has 2 returning bigs, Govan 6' 10" - 21 mpg & Derrickson 6'7' - 23.8 mpg that played more than Akoy's 15 mpg. They also had a sr. Hayes 7'0" playing 13.1 mpg. So he looks to be third big next year, not bad, but not where NBA dreams are made.
