We should only need 3-4 players per year. There are plenty to go around. Over the last 5 years how many recruits would we have lost to Missouri had Cuonzo been there?

If Groce's recruiting success relies on the relative weakness of other schools he's in a losing position regardless.

Charlie Moore of course went across the country to play for him. I'm not talking about Groce either. He's a failure. It's our next coach who will have to worry about Cuonzo. You're always recruiting against the competition.

Attendance has dropped by 2000 a game since Groce took over. From 15,000 to 13,000 per game. I cannot imagine that the erosion won't continue if Groce stays.

I think JW has to make a move
This is what will drive the decision and the eye test which Illinois under Groce fails badly. It is one thing to lose but the way they lose almost forecasts future problems no matter what the talent. End of half and end of game strategy consists of Ray Rice or Malcolm Hill going one on one for the game deciding basket. Not a formula for consistent success.

But this is year 5 and Groce recruited these guys. He can't have it both ways. The recruiting rankings say we are more talented than most opponents in the big ten. This staff has to own this unprecedented streak without an NCAA tourney trip.

Amen. Keeping Groce will likely set us back 5 years...

Malcolm Hill, who is largely responsible for the success that has happened during Groce's tenure not including the first year, was the previous dtaff's recruit. He was committed before Groce got here.

Wow, what did you have for breakfast today? I want some. Illinois above NC, Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas? I suspect you also want the Bears to play ABOVE the level of the Patriots. Maybe Nancy Pelosi will become the reincarnation of Abe Lincoln or maybe Lovie Smith will lead Illinois past Ohio State and Alabama this fall. I guess it never hurts to aim high. If I was that optimistic, my wife would accuse me of having had head trauma. Please let me know what your recipe is for those nice delusional thoughts though. Maybe I'll move back to Champaign and get a place overlooking a cornfield. I L L !!!

Most people will agree with you that I'm aiming too high. What is my recipe for these nice (delusional) thoughts? There is a Holy Book that states that Without Vision, the People Perish. And psychology teaches that a person will rise to the level of their expectations (good or bad). I agree with those ideas. Illini fans have aimed too low for too long. If that is all they want, that is all they’ll get. I'm blaming not the fans, but the thinking that our program is fine without trying to be the best. You may not want to move back to Champaign to overlook a cornfield. But how about having a glass case there with about 5 Illini NCAA title trophies by 2030? Another place with corn (Nebraska) has bagged several national football titles by now by thinking big. Maybe they have better corn than Illinois?

I agree 100%. Just don't like seeing a couple of shots at the players for how the season has turned out. While yes its them that play its their coaches that have assembled this team. They just don't have the personnel to compete for a top half finish. I do think they play their hearts out thou.

Agree completely. The coaches and players care and are trying hard for sure. I like them all a lot. I'm really happy that the coaches have created an atmosphere that is positive right now. I like a lot about the current situation... But more winning is required at Illinois [emoji41]

No matter what you think of Cuonzo's coaching, having him at Mizzou and Ford at St Louis is not good at all for us.
Absolutely agree. I fear Cuonzo at Missouri a bit. He will have recruiting success at our expense in an annual basis if he's there. He will also beat us a fair amount.

I don't. Missouri has had good players before, They are not a top 20 program and Illinois is. I would rather have him there than here.

I guess that depends on who is coaching here. Not sure there is much relevance to the Top 20 program thing here other than maybe in luring prospective coach away. I don't think it predicts future success in any meaningful way.

Cuonzo can recruit, and I expect Illinois to lose some recruiting battles to him, but I don't fear him. I've seen what he can do with NBA talent on his roster and I'm honestly not that impressed. I think there are better coaches out there that Illinois could get. I hope for an Archie Miller type coach

You are no doubt, a good man. Agree that Illinois fans might need to step up but suspect they will once the product on the field or court makes them proud to be Illini. The model football program for football should be Ohio State where football is like a religion. Your Nebraska example is also a good one. Let's hope they sign a good your coach (a Matt Painter cone perhaps) and get back to where the basketball program needs to be .....challenging for B1G titles every year.

Trying to link a tweet. Marshall not denying he will listen to offers this off season. Could just be looking for a raise, but it certainly raises eyebrows.

I can't figure out how to link from this phone. Jeremy retweeted, so someone can bail me out and share.

OK, sounds like he is not only willing to listen, but he intends to. I know people have talked about him being a jerk (I don't know him at all), but he sure can coach!

This reeks of hey I'm looking for a pay raise or a job at a Blue Blood in case you were on the fence about keeping your coach hint hint Indiana.

I'd consider Marshall the home run hire. Unfortunately I expect he goes to IN for their 'blue blood' status and stomps us for years to come.

We're a top 20 program? After missing the Dance 5 years in a row? We used to be a top 20 program, but not now, not by any stretch of the imaginatioin.

I understand what you are saying. What I mean is Illinois is a top 20 program based on history and sucess. But by top 20 there are 30 teams in that range of 15 to 30 programs can claim this. I guess I was just saying we are a better program than Missouri and I don't want Martin

Word in Dakotaland is Neb likely to move on from Miles

Didn't the Nebraska AD make a comment or something in support of Miles? I believe they had mentioned something during the Nebraska-Illini game.
