I wish that John Groce was a better coach, because in so many aspects he seems like a great guy and the kind of representative of the University that we need. However, his coaching leaves a lot to be desired and his recruiting hasn't been, and doesn't seem like it will ever be, enough to make up for those shortcomings.
As far as who I would like to coach the team in the future, my greatest desire is for a coach with a discernible system. My biggest pet peeve with the Illini offense the past few years has been that it seems to be simply a series of pick and rolls with occasional side to side ball movement. If you don't have the talent to match up with your opponent, it gets ugly quickly, which is why I believe we have seen so many blowout losses.
Recruiting-wise, I think Pickett and Damonte are solid as long as we have a decent coach. Frazier might be a bit up in the air, as it seems like his relationship with the coaches was a huge factor, but I would say that he is more likely than not to stick around as PT will be readily available for him. Tilmon could have his pick of many attractive destinations this spring if he asks out of his LOI, but with the right coach, like Frazier, he could certainly see the path to lots of PT and decide to stick around.
