I've wanted them to get the top pick. I wont try any pretend like I didn't. but picking in the top 3-4 will get them a really good prospect still. Add that into the talent coming up and its still a good thing. I actually think they can get Beer at 3 or 4th pick. And we all know we want to see Beer and Burger going back to back.

We're still light years away, but it sounds like scouts are split on whether Beer is a top of the board guy or late 1st/early 2nd. He's going to mash, but he might not play a premium position. Seems like we've got a lot of those guys on the farm already.

And yeah, I don't think there's much separating the top 5 picks unless we're talking about a Harper/Greene type.

Speaking of, found this on the Sox subreddit:

Only half joking about winning your way out of top three pick.

One one hand, if you are going to rebuild, and going to be bad, may as well be bad enough for a top three pick.

On the other hand, you want your young guys to perform, learn how to win, never give up, etc. it seems they are doing that. Liking what I see out of Giolito. Liking what I see from Moncado, except for strike outs. Delmonico is a nice surprise. Hope Anderson can continue to improve. Lopez seems to be learning on the job, but I'm fine with that.

Future is bright. Hopefully add some more pieces through the draft, a combination of a couple years away guys (i.e. College guys or superstar high school) , supplemented with longer term guys to keep the pipeline going. A tough balance, but that's why they pay Rick Hahn the big bucks.

Weird to say good year after a win loss record like that. But knowing what we ad going into this, the developments and players added to the system make it a good year. I'm excited to see what Hahn will do this off season.

Ditto.

Copy/pasting a redditor's summary of Hahn interview yesterday:

There will be some acquisition of veteran players but nobody who would block anybody currently on the team or in the minors. In other words, low level veteran filler for the pen and he said possibly the rotation as well.

Guys who he doesn't want to block who have earned more playing time: Nicky, Yolmer who will start at 3B next year, and Davidson.

Still closer to the beginning of the process than the end and he doesn't want to rush anybody's development in the minors. They will continue to acquire fillers until they arrive, when ready.

I had a feeling this would happen to him. He would always start the season hot and cool off down the stretch. Additionally, he always tended to overthrow during "big" starts and totally suck.

Wut? I really don't think we are at the point yet where we should start trading prospects for guys who have one year left on their contract.

Unless we already have a deal in place to flip him to someone else for prospects.

There were rumors that Sox would flip him immediately to Yankees or Red Sox (since Orioles don't want to deal to division rival), but Bob Nightengale reporting that Machado would be kept:

The #WhiteSox have no intention of flipping Manny Machado if they land him, they say, insisting he fits into their long-term plans

These rumors have left me scratching my head trying to figure out the plan. I only see 2 reasons the Sox make a move, and both have been posted in here. They know they have a deal to flip him to a team in the O's division...Or the Sox have been in talks with Manny's agent and feel they have deal that can be made to extend him in that 72 hour window.

With regards to the O's not wanting to deal within the division...I have always thought this was an out of date way of looking at things. Felt the same way with the Sox last season with a Sale deal. If the plan is to get better with prospects, make a deal to the team that makes you the best offer.

There's no doubt the Sox covet Machado. That said, can't see Hahn pulling the trigger without assurances that Machado will extend, provided the offer is adequate. Reinsdorf is going to have to back up the truck.

Fornelli floated this hypothetical, and it checks out for me...

Baltimore FO leaks that White Sox made the best of the dozen offers they got, but will head back home without making a deal to discuss any impending moves. Given that the Sox have arguably the best assets to make a deal (outside the Yankees, who the owner might not sign off dealing with), this ostensibly raises the bar for any other offer thereafter.

I don't think it happens, but Rosenthal saying one of Giolito or Kopech would be packaged in the offer gives me serious, serious pause. If we were close to contending in 2018, maybe...

There's also a handful of reasons to believe this thing is for real, and Hahn is earnestly trying to land him. I'm scared to discuss that, personally.

For sure, this was seriously the most enjoyable season I can recall in a while. :thumb:

Agreed, play the long game.
