when is it appropriate to start worrying about moncada?

I'm not a Sox fan, but it's not so much the nature of the plan as the fact that, thusfar, it has been executed really, really well. Rick Hahn has gotten tremendous value for the assets that were left on an already-bad Sox team, and has put them in a position to be competitive very soon.

It's when you turn into the Pirates or A's and keep the cycle churning of always selling off the valuable pieces you got for selling off your previous valuable pieces that it turns into a sham.

Agreed on Hahn, could not have asked for a better haul to kickstart the rebuild. And you best believe that us Sox fans are familiar with the treadmill of mediocrity (hi, Kenny! :tsk:).

There is a reason Boston included him in the package. Yes, they got Sale. But the Red Sox were not going to include Benintendi or Devers in any package. That doesn't mean they didn't think Moncada was great and a significant piece to give up. But they no longer viewed him as sure fire All-Star. And a lot of that was based on his propensity to K. I'm still hopeful - he's young. But, I think we need to see some progress if he is a long-term answer.

I'm not close to worrying yet on Moncada. He will need to work things out at the major league level. Too good to struggle in the lower levels. K rate is high, but I think it comes down because he does have good recognition on the zone. He is also a switch hitter. He is trying to perfect 2 different swings right now.

Moncada's only had 80 games at AAA and 45 games at AA. He's basically going through the latter stages of his minor league development at the Big League level for the entire world to see.

I put this loss on Renteria. Shields absolutely sucks in the first inning, so why put him out there when one run loses it for you? And in typical Shields fashion, it would have been more than one run if the A's needed hem.

I blame Ricky because I really wanted to see a position player throw.

But really, good nights for either Tim/Yoan/Rey/Gio = W

Glad Eloy is getting going in AA. The way the bullpen has looked, I'm wanting to direct my attention to some of the guys in the minors vs having to watch the MLB club.

Baseball sized lump in my throat regarding Farquhar. Beyond scary, especially that clip of him being carried out of the dugout.

News broadcast in Chicago. Maybe I misunderstood. They sounded somewhat positive given the seriousness of the aneurysm , but said next few days are critical. I guess I mistakenly took that as better, but guarded?

Gotcha. The statistics regarding aneurysms are grim, but staying positive is all we can do. Can't imagine trying to get back out there and play.

That was a brutal weekend of baseball. I have to think some of that had to do with watching a teammate get carried out of the dugout like that.

I think a lot of people had some slight hope this team overachieved this year. But I think Hahn was correct saying this would be the toughest year of the rebuild. No excitement of big trades, and all the !!! kicking we can take. Another top 5 draft pick next year.

I know you Sox fans are probably sick of the Cubs comparisons, but I really see your team in about the same place as the ‘14 Cubs. That team got off to an awful 13-27 start exacerbated by a bullpen blowing a ton of games. Then Arrieta and Hendricks solidified the starting rotation and the team was only a couple games under .500 for the rest of the season. They then won 97 games in ‘15.

I could really see something like that happening for this year’s Sox. If it clicks for a couple of your young pieces part-way through the season, you could be a competitive team going forward, especially in that miserable division, and then be ready to compete all year long in ‘19.

Blake Rutherford raking in High A.

https://www.southsidesox.com/2018/4...eekly-minor-league-update-week-3-eloy-is-back

Blake Rutherford is having a stellar start in 2018. He is slashing .373/.421/.510, with a weighted runs created plus of 161, which means he is roughly better that 61% of the hitting competition. He has not hit a home run yet, but he already has seven doubles in 12 games. He is also sporting a career-high line drive rate of 26.3%, which means he is showing improvement in elevating the ball thus far. His BABIP is high (.475) so his slash line will dip, but Rutherford should still be around a .280 hitter if he wants to show more pop.

Interesting with Rutherford. All the hype for him was developing pop to his game. But if he can be a really good bat to ball guy at the top of the lineup, id take it. Id also welcome a 280 hitter with pop.

Farquhar up and walking. Great news.

Split screening Gio & the NBA playoffs in about 3 minutes.

I'm long past the point of getting disappointed about White Sox L's, but couple that with Cubs W's and I'm out. No can do this series, especially with no Rey or Yo.
