2020-21 Illini Men's Golf

I just noticed that Gillard is no longer on the team. I had high hopes for him. When did he leave? Where did he go I see that Chopra is now listed on Nortwestern's roster though he has yet to play. Must have joined in the spring.
I have no knowledge, but I'm going to guess Gillard to Indiana

I was not aware of that either, I know he had a good summer. He is very talented. I see he played an Am Event this month from his OWGR.

We threw darts on the course today shooting 20 under and winning by 38 strokes. Jerry Ji takes the individual title at -13 while putting all 5 scorers in the top 7. This team can make a run at a NC.

This team. What a season this is taking shape to be.

Thanks for the updates, guys!

This is team is super deep 1-5. That is what is so impressive. Feags is the leader and 'best' player perhaps but everybody can score. In this tourney each player had their score counted at least twice. There is no dead weight on the squad.

I just wonder if Illinois will be invited back after shooting so low. 38 shots better than second place Louisiana? C'mon. Didn't sound like the course was a pushover either.

No field announced for Arizona NIT just yet, but by checking schedules of logical invites I see that Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, SC are supposed to play.

Shaping up to be a tough field.

I guess tourney hosts wait until pretty much the last minute to announce official lineup. Covid concerns, possible cancellations, problems, etc.

I'm confused yet again.

Rankings aren't everything. But how do you (can you?) reconcile Sagarin/Golfstat with Bushnell/Coaches? Two different approaches, I guess. Jeff Sagarin weekly; coaches' poll monthly! MIT stats vs. gut feel? Or a bit of both? Help me out here, please.

All I really know is that Illini are very good. All capable of shooting low or hanging around par. Recipe for success anywhere, anytime in college golf.

Play the course, Illini, not the other team - no matter its ranking or place in college golf history

rankings are not only not everything they are simply inaccurate some of the time. Bushnell is often referenced in articles and write ups so that is what I tend to look at, but in golf they are rough guesses at best.

I have myself rated in Top 10 on my little executive 9-holer across the way. Senior tour, of course. Playing with 18-year-old Titleist irons. More recent (2008?) Hogan driver and other ancient equipment. Just play the game, baby1

Hardy, Guthrie and Langley all struggling in Korn Ferry Tour event this week. Really thought Hardy would kick butt and secure card. Hopefully he gets in form soon.

Off to a good start today as we are -6 and 2 off the lead. Still early in the round and all 5 players are under par with Feagles at -3. Behind OKST and OKLA who are at -8

Feagles limping in with 3 straight bogeys with one hole left but GIO is tied for the lead at -6. We are a complete team which is good when we get into the Nationals and the match play format.

Illini are in it, but gave away 3 strokes on the final hole today. gonna need to go low to get the W tomorrow.

I sure hope Illini hold on and finish in top 3 or 4. I'd be happy with that (especially after basketball disaster today).

No disrespect to Arizona at all, but they are playing on one of their several "home" courses which they can play year round. Can't hurt.

Gio is playing perhaps some of the best golf of his Illini career. Way to go!
