2020-21 Illini Men's Golf

Didn’t realize that was starting today. Thanks for posting. Up 1 now but in reality a bigger lead because they are further into their round and Crooked Stick is brutally tough. The more holes these teams play the further over par they are likely to get.

You're welcome.

I'd probably shoot 150 at Crooked Stick. I think a PGA Professional championship was played there a few years ago (got to check that out). I watched it on Golf Channel. Scary tough.

I'm wrong about PGA Professional at Crooked Stick, I think. But I watched on electrical television a great moment in pro golf years ago: John Daly winning at Crooked Stick as an alternate or whatever in the PGA.

Whoa...Gio not having a very good day at +9 on 14. Illini now tied for second -1 behind unranked Iowa at +4...Come on, Gio.

I don’t understand why they set these golf courses up like these are all PGA Tour players. Crooked Stick at 7400 yards? Come on. Let them make some birdies. The winning team score might be +20 and I would bet a lot of money that no individual will finish under par. I just don’t get it. End rant.

Yes, I agree with you. But conditions are the same for every team and player. The toughest team wins despite weather, the course, and horoscope. I don't really care if it's 7400 yards or my little nine-holer. Just play your best.

Long way to go. GO ILLINI Hang in there.

I am pretty sure the BMW Championship was player there (I live in the area) about 5 years ago

I hear you. I guess it’s pretty windy there but still. These are all really good players and the average score is likely to be just under 80. Unnecessary. Whoever is setting up the course knows the forecast. Push the tees up 20 yards on each hole and give them a chance.
I guess scores were similar two years ago. Maybe that’s what they are going for?

Great to see both Adrien and Tommy Kuhl play so well, tied for 3rd at +1. Hopefully, Michael and Jerry tied for 26th at +5 and Gio at +11 can get back on their games in round 2. Illini currently finished the round tied with Iowa (I was wrong earlier-ranked 38th) for 2nd at +12, three strokes behind at the moment to unranked OSU who’s not finished.

Iowa has a couple really good players but the Illini are deeper. Really good 1-5. Huge round from Kuhl today. Tough course probably plays into the Illini’s favor. Rough back 9 but still in a good spot. I’ll take the Illini and give the field 10 shots.

The stick is a helluva a course particularly with the wind up. if no wind the pros can go low here but in Dye course with wind becomes an issue. But no biggie, tied for first is not a bad place to be, obviously. Lets see who steps ups this round, beauty is it can be any of the guys 1-5. So deep.

Illinois up one on Iowa. Shaping up to be a two horse race. Iowa hanging tough but don’t think they can hang for 27 more holes.

wow, coming down to it. Illinois has a 5 year winning streak on the line. Iowa's top two have been nails all tourney

I think if they tie, Illinois wins.

I believe they would then count the scores of the #5 golfers, and Illinois is ahead there by about 10 strokes.

Shoot! Now they're down by one stroke :(
