Illini lose Feagles and Gio. Thanks so much, guys. Thank you. But Illini have Piercen Hunt waiting in the wings and more. Illinois golf is in good shape, thanks to Coach. I hope for a national title before I croak (age 70 right now and counting the days). GO ILLINI!

Do you know anything about the two incoming freshmen?

What a great year for these guys. Fought it all the way down to the wire. They really have a lot to be happy about, and to continue building from.

Well, there's one from California and another from Georgia (USA). Don't remember their names. Will reprort back.

One is Jackson Buchanon, GA,; the other is Dylan Keating, Ireland. Last I read there was a guy from California, too, reneged?

Check it out for yourselves, friends: Illinois Golf website: news.

Hoping ADC returns we will not be hurting for talent, Along with Ji, Kuhl, ADC, we will have Piercen Hunt, transfer Nico Lang and Luke Armbrust. I expect ADC will take over as the number 1 as Ji and Kuhl will take the next two spots. Fill in the rest with the three I mentioned and the two incoming FR, we will be stocked to make another run at the NC. Small will have them ready by next season.

When you can almost guarantee playing in the national championships every year....recruiting is not going to be a problem. Mike has the facilities and the track record to bring in solid talent. We will always play second fiddle to the southern and western schools, and it's pretty spectacular that Mike has the program where it is in spite of that.

Great year boys! Congrats!

Is there reason to think ADC won't return? Just wondering. Hope he comes back; he and Jerry will likely be 1 and 2. But I hope they get some stiff competition from the rest of Illini.

Maybe turning pro and get on the European Tour. With ADC, Jerry and Tommy, we have a solid core. Lots of competition for the final 2 spots. We will be ranked again as Small has a reputation of being one of the best coaches in college golf.

Lucky me, as a volunteer at Arnold Palmer Cup 6/12 and 13 I'll get to watch ADC in action, maybe even shuttle him between holes 9 and 10.

I hope he doesn't pull a fellow Belgian thing and leave early. (Of course Thomas Pieters had won an NCAA championship). Thomas Detry stayed. Please don't leave, ADC - I'm still working on how to pronounce your name

If I talk to him, I'll ask if he plans to return to Illini and will report the scoop right here.

When will the golf course be ready?

I say IlliniLoyalty golf fans should organize an outing at Atkins (Adkins?) when it's ready. I will personally award a loud, lewd and obnoxious sport coat (orange and blue?) to the winner. (Don't hold me to that pledge.)

Have clubs, will travel. Wire Illiniu, DeKalb. (One of my favorite TV westerns)

Great write-up from Robert at Illiniboard about what Mike Small has created so far and the future players coming in.
Wasn’t aware that the match play pairing went like that. Thought each coach just put in a lineup. The OU coach wasn’t putting Welch on the board until he saw Feagles or ADC, essentially punting that match and having Illinois use up one of its two big guns to do it. Thanks for posting.

Yes, excellent stuff from Robert. What struck me was that Robert has such a great partner in his twosome.
Sounds like she just wanted him out of the house so she could give the sports talk a rest and get going with some HGTV. 😆

And really important stuff like finishing the garage cleaning! Women rule! They should. Weenie that I am, I admit my shortcomings as a man , but I bow down to the broads. I expect some hate responses to that last comment. All in good fun.

I did some math for you ---- 10,950 days (plus/minus) until you reach age 100. That's a lot of counting my friend!

Just listened to coach Small on Sportstalk. He indicated that the Golf Channel has pretty much dictated the operation of the NCAA golf championship (he wasn't complaining). They told the NCAA that they would cover the championship ONLY if they utilized a match play format. They also mandated that the tournament be held in the west in order to facilitate prime time programming. The tourney is now scheduled for three years in Scottsdale and then three years in San Diego. Small felt that the TV coverage was a fair trade off even though the west coast teams reap an advantage.

The TV coverage is awesome for the kids and worth it. I know it was hot in AZ but hard to have this tournament if you are battling the weather to get rounds in. AZ and San Diego are about as good as it gets. No question that the 72 hole stroke play portion probably shows you who the best team is but hard to beat the drama of the match play rounds. Sort of like March Madness. You’re not always going to end up with the “best” team winning but what wonderful theater it is!
