2021-22 Illini Men's Golf

Is Nick Hardy hurt right now? I have not seen him in a PGA event lately. He seemed to be struggling, but won't keep his card if he doesn't get out there.

Is there anyone who follows NCAA golf closer than I that would be kind enough to give a breakdown of how they feel like our draw and our chances of advancing?

It's a guessing game as always in sports. The good news is that the experts have seeded Illinois #4 in the New Haven Regional; that means they think Illinois should be one of five teams advancing from that regional to the NCAA Championship in Arizona. (Six regionals, five teams from each advance to stroke play; then whitlled down to 15 teams; then eight teams at match play, seeding based on their finish in the final eight).

This probably doesn't help answer your question. I guess when show moves to Arizona we'll get more handicapping.

Who knows? Illinois is not a favorite to win the whole thing, but a fine showing like last year would be great.

Guys on Golf Channel talked more about Yale team, a 13 seed's chances, than Illini's. Yes, it's Yale's home course, but c'mon. Tongue in cheek, maybe.

Mike Small knows Yale course well: bonus.

Not knocking Yale. They beat Michigan at last fall's MacDonald Cup at same course. But Michigan ain't Illinois or North Carolina or Texas Tech or Wake Forest.

Michigan men's team is kinda bad. Their girls team is really good though. The best golfer normally on Michigan is former Illini Brenden O'Reilly who actually had a great B10 championships performance finishing tied for 6th.

Good catch on O'Reilly. Wasn't aware of that. Put Varun Chopra and him back on our roster and we would have fielded a very nice group.

I really do wish Varun stayed but even his nice year this season he may not have even made our top 5 from an average standpoint. O'Reilly is a half of stroke behind our top 5 which is quite a bit actually. In fact all of the top 5 at Illinois are better then Thompson Michigan's number 1. I think they made the right decision to transfer.

This team is really quite solid at the backend, it is the 2/3/4 scores that haven't been consistent enough. I really thought Jerry was going to go under par more this year. Tommy has leaped ahead of him on the ladder and that is nice to see from Kuhl but suprised that Jerry is higher than career average this season. AdC is still on pace for the lowest year ever by an Illinois golfer, he is the reason this team is performing so well.

Jerry got injured in late Dec/early January not sure when exactly. Still recovering from it a bit.

Best of luck to Illini at New Haven regional. Just finish in top five and advance to Arizona. Can do. Illini have the pedigree. Can do. It'll probably be a little nerve-racking for three days, but I feel really good about Illini chances of advancing. Can do.

Too bad Illini women didn't advance out of regional. If you're in the area in October, follow them at Illini Invitational at Medinah. Will do as a volunteer once again, God willing.

Someone remind what we need to get out of the regionals? Like top 5 or something?

Need Jerry to bounce back well. The 4th worst round out of like 80 today. Really rough round by him hope he finds it tomorrow. Piercen with a clutch best round of his career to help.

It looks like it's going to be more windy tomorrow in New Haven than it was today. We played in a lot of wind in the Big Ten championship, so hoping that will benefit us.

+1 on the par 5-18th hurt a bit but the team is positioned well. Hunt with a monster round today to keep things steady. Time ADC to show his stuff.

Worried about Jerry's play but I feel like he will count the next two days with even par(ish) efforts. Just got to advance. No style points here.

Looking at the rest of the field that hole looks like it's tough for a par 5

Off to a bad start. something is seriously off with Jerry and we need Adrien to get going. He's struggling a bit compared to his usual performance.
