Well I for one would take Ayo and Kofi over Wagner. Biased? Maybe but Wagner has never impressed me - especially not #8-15!
Big wing defenders are all the rage these days, and Wagner is that plus a decent offensive player. I can see why he's a mid 1st round pick. I'm kind of surprised Livers isn't higher tbh.

It's always interesting what's valued in college vs. the NBA. Crazy that Garza will likely be the second Iowa player drafted even though the team was :poop: without him.

He's 6'9, can score on multiple levels, and is 19. That's enough to interest NBA teams. He, like most lottery picks, will be drafted largely based on potential, and they'll see more of it in him than Ayo or Kofi (both 21).

Maybe Wagner will be great, but I agree I haven't seen it. Defensively decent with potential to be good. Season stats: 12.5 ppg 6.5 reb 3.0 assists. Going on potential for sure

respect my decision™
I've seen some recent mock drafts with BJ Boston still as a lotto pick and he played like a hot pile of dog :poop: this year. Sometimes who gets drafted where just doesn't make sense 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, a lot of mocks are pure trash. Caveat emptor.

Garza NCAA vs NBA feels like Tyler Hansbrough 2.0

This is so true and yet I’ve never understood it. Draft on the potential of what they will be in about 3 years, right as the rookie contract ends.

They're still a restricted free agent at the end of the rookie contract. If they live up to what you think they can be you can sign em/match any offer for another 4-5 years or, if you don't want to pay them, trade the asset. But defensively, Franz should be able to contribute right away. Great frame + his defensive numbers are pretty remarkable. I could see him playing a Patrick Williams-type role early on with room to grow.

Liddell seems much better to me but also not a scout.

Where is all the love for Wagner? Maybe he is a stud in games I don't watch, but I've never seen him do anything top 15 worthy

There is no doubt he has the most raw talent of anyone on that list. It's clear from watching him play.

What's also clear is that he has shown an inability to perform when the lights are bright. Maybe its pressure, maybe its a lack of confidence but I think NBA teams will be enamored with this skillset at that height.

When I see guys like Patrick Williams for Da Bulls who was a sixth man in the NCAA... I throw out college achievement as an evaluation tool.

Newest NBA two round mock draft from Bleacher report out today with Ayo at 28 & Kofi not in the top 60.

The NBA is a game of finding the franchise player more than other leagues. One player can only make a small difference in MLB or the NFL. One player can completely change the direction of your franchise in the NBA. Draft is all about upside. If you find the next difference maker you are delighted to give him a max contract.

will be interesting to see what Ayo's stock looks like as we get closer to the draft. an excellent season like he had certainly elevated it, now the metrics and intangibles come into play

with Kofi, my guess is that NBA scouts would be okay with his scoring taking a dip if he averaged another 2-3 assists per game, another 1-2 blocks per game, and showed the ability to hit the elbow jumper. He absolutely needs to demonstrate the ability to pass out of the post. 15/10/4apg/2bpg averages with an elbow jumper gets him there imo

More important is he needs to show he can switch on ball screens IMO.

Sort of surprised about Curbelo. I would think he'll first need to double his shooting range from 10 to 20 ft.

And if he's already at #103, I guess we won't have him for 4 more years.

I know I’m super late to the party with this, but I think if Curbelo ups his 3% (maybe 37+) on a solid volume, particularly off the dribble when his defender goes under screens, or he just creates space as he can do, he’s gone after next year.

This assumes he keeps A/TO ratio at least the same, and gets stronger which should be a given.

With NBA helpside rules you either commit to help early (and give more space for kickouts) or you don’t really help at all (and give up layups). It makes the reads really simple.
